Pictured above are Ada’s mother, Clara Decker Lake, and Ada’s grandmother, Nancy Mellott Decker. The women were standing by a rock pile on Sideling Hill during the construction of Lincoln Highway. Conceived in 1912 and formally dedicated in 1913, the Lincoln Highway was America’s first transcontinental highway, spanning the nation coast-to-coast from New York City to San Francisco. It came to be affectionately known as “The Main Street Across America.” The Lincoln Highway brought prosperity to hundreds of cities, towns and villages along the way, including Mc- Connellsburg. 67p2.jpg
