Southern Fulton mechanics students took home musical instruments for Christmas this year. A unique project, students had fun tinkering with their personally designed xylophones while perfecting their learning of scale drawings, measurements, the use of hand tools, wood finishing and more. “I think that our class did a really great job working on our xylophones. It was really neat to see our scale drawings come to life,” said Cody Sheeder. “The scale drawings were the hardest part ... but making xylophones made it easier to learn because we all were really excited about our designs and wanted to see what they would sound like when they were finished.” (Harlie Wills) Through the project, the students found out that learning difficult and sometimes confusing tasks can come much easier when you’re having fun and when you’re making music. 80p1.jpg
