Fifth-grade students at McConnellsburg Elementary School learned about beekeeping last week from local business man and beekeeper Jeff Stoner. Stoner brought his equipment into the classroom and discussed how he uses it in caring for his bees. He explained many of the jobs that need to be done throughout the year to keep the bees healthy and productive. He showed several products of beekeeping such as honey, beeswax and pollen. In addition,Stoner discussed how he harvests and markets these products. He gave each student a sample of his delicious, locally grown honey. The students have a nonfiction story about beekeeping in their reading text. Thanks to Stoner, the written word was brought to life for the students.
