Motorists who have navigated as lengthy as a 10-mile detour for nearly two months now will be happy to know that work is winding down on the new bridge just west of McConnellsburg between Back Run Road and the Lincoln Highway bypass or Route 1004. The bridge, which has been under construction since August 18, is progressing on schedule, according to Tara Callahan, community relations coordinator for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's (PennDOT) District Office 9-0 in Hollidaysburg. She said work will be completed by the target date of November 9, 2008. Callahan said work is now being done on the bridge joints and deck and once that is finished, work will wrap up on the bridge sides and piers. The original work orders for the $571,000 project call for replacement of the bridge deck, minor structure rehabilitation, milling of approach roadway, complete removal of bituminous material from bridge beams and repaving of the approach roadway. Clearwater Construction of Mercer is the general contractor for the job.
