Young learners going to childcare at the Fulton County Center for Families found themselves entering an island of excitement this past week. To celebrate National Young Readers’ Week, FCCF staff redecorated the daycare center around the theme of Treasure Island. Staff and children dressed up as their favorite storybook characters on Monday as they played around the giant cardboard pirate ship, and on Wednesday everyone dressed down for Movie & PJs Day. Mother Goose put in an appearance on Friday to read, while parents and grandparents stopped by to share their favorite books with children throughout the week. When children read, they build a wide variety of skills – from language and communication to concentration and logical thinking. Even better, reading allows children to develop the skills they will need for later academic success while enjoying the excitement and imagination of a good story.
