Katelyn Shoemaker, 12, of Hustontown recently completed a humanitarian aid project for disaster relief to countries devastated by earthquakes. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has an ongoing humanitarian aid program that includes sending hygiene kits like the ones Katelyn assembled to orphanages and shelters in areas hardest hit by natural disasters. The hygiene kits include toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, combs and hand towels. Katelyn completed the project as part of a service program that the young women of the church participate in. Church members, Forbes Road teachers and friends donated items and cash to purchase items for the 32 kits that she was able to assemble. Katelyn is pictured above delivering the kits to church representatives Steven Grow and Monte Palmer.
