Sixty-three-year-old Leroy Fagley of Harrisonville was around town last week displaying a locally grown turnip that tipped the scales at two ounces shy of six pounds. Fagley told the “News” the turnip was grown with one of his seeds by Needmore resident Herman Hann. Fagley stated he has had trouble in the past growing turnips at his Pleasant Ridge Road home and asked Hann if he was interested in growing the vegetable for his family. Fagley added the turnip is the largest Hann has reported seeing in more than 70 years, measuring 26 inches around. Fagley intends on sharing the vegetable with his grandchildren, not cooked but raw, with a little salt!
