Willis A. Mellott

Needmore, 81

Willis A. Mellott, 81, Needmore, died Saturday, January 5, 2019, at his residence.

He was born in Needmore, April 2, 1937, the son of the late Claire (Reed) and Oscar P. Mellott. He was the widower of Rae B. (Bookheimer) Mellott, whom he married December 24, 1959, and she passed away January 20, 2011.

He attended Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren in Needmore.

He served in the National Guard and was a charter member of Needmore Volunteer Fire Co. and was a member of Cove Mills Tractor Club.

He was a self-employed canned milk hauler for 20 years, drove a tri-axle dump truck for K.G. Richards in McConnellsburg, and also drove truck for S&S Excavating in Needmore. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, racing and was an antique tractor enthusiast.

He is survived by sons: Timothy A. Mellott, Needmore; and Toby A. (husband of Elizabeth) Mellott, Concord, N.C.; grandsons: Darin (husband of Megan) Mellott, Needmore; and Wesley (fiance Susan Chang) Mellott, King of Prussia, Pa.; a step-grandson, Chase Carey, Concord, N.C.; and greatgrandchildren: Graham and Paisley Mellott.

He was preceded in death by brothers Maynard and Paul Mellott and a sister, Sylvia Wertz.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 9, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg. There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Thursday at the church.

Services will be held at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren, Needmore, at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 10, with Pastor Roger Truax officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Needmore.
