SFSD Schedules “Breakfast With The Board” Open House

During the Nov. 20 Southern Fulton School District (SFSD) board meeting, board member Richard Morgan announced that the Southern Fulton school board will host an open house – Breakfast with the Board – for staff members in the elementary on Dec. 11 from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. and in the high school on Dec. 13 from 7:15 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.

Julia Dovey from the Fulton County Family Partnership (FCFP) presented the Pre-K contract to the board and announced the potential for a before and-after-school care program in the future. Class of 2020 reps Grace Mosemann and Tessa McAllister presented information about their senior class trip to Disney World.

Superintendent Tara Will introduced Logan Kennedy, who will be a student teacher for the second semester of the school year, and said that Dan Meredith has agreed to assist with the elementary Christmas concert for grades K-4, with some grade-six soloists. There is a plan to hold a concert in the spring for grades K-6.

Superintendent Will also gave an update on the latest air-quality results, reported that the elementary secure entrance would be completed in December, and gave an update on the plans for the $25,000 safety grant.

Building and grounds

Board member Donnie Gordon reported that he is in the process of sending original drawings to an engineer for a wall by the track at the high school. He also noted that the November Building and Grounds Committee meeting was cancelled.

Personnel

The board approved Marley Elbin, Keena Elbin, Erin Hartman, and Adrianne Gregory as substitute teachers and Jennifer Scott, Michael Keebaugh, and Marjory Leese as paraprofessional substitutes. Jeremy Clingerman was approved as an unpaid volunteer junior high, junior varsity, and varsity assistant girls basketball coach for the 2018-19 school year.

The board accepted with regret letters of resignation from Denise Crouse as a paraprofessional effective Nov. 2 and from Leslie Wilson as junior high boys head soccer coach.

A Family Medical Leave Act was approved for an employee beginning October 3, 2018, and ending approximately February 1, 2019.

Richard Morgan reported on the Nov. 14 Personnel Committee meeting, explaining that interviews were conducted for the assistant maintenance position, and that the committee discussed employee donation of sick leave. A staff morale survey was also discussed.

Policy

The board approved the first reading of Policy 806, Child Abuse.

The contract between Pre- K Counts, SFSD, and FCFP was approved, as was an agreement between Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11 and SFSD for special education services, and an agreement between The American National Red Cross and SFSD. The Red Cross will have access to use facilities to provide service during a disaster.

Transportation

Timothy Ramsey was hired as a substitute bus driver for Shawn Weaver.

Board members in attendance were Patrick Bard, Jeff Hull, Eric Barnhart, Richard Morgan, Timothy Mellott, Mark Mosemann, Donnie Gordon, Kirk Layton, and Allen Morton. Also present were Tara Will, superintendent; Meredith Hendershot, high school principal; Terry Bard, high school vice principal; Kathy Cutchall, elementary principal; Diane Younker, special education director; Doug Leisher, technology specialist; Debra Schetrompf, business manager; and MaryAnn Johnson, board secretary.

Visitors present were Brian Pittman, Shannon Pittman, Amanda Shives, Jennifer Mellott, Justin Mellott, Grace Mosemann, Tessa McAllister, Julie Dovey, Carrie Shaw and Logan Kennedy.
