Robert Eugene Appleby, 79, Fort Loudon, died Thursday morning, November 1, 2018, at the home of Jack Clark and Stacie Scholl, Davis Lane, Hustontown.

Born May 4, 1939, at Hustontown, he was the son of the late John E. and Nora (Clippinger) Appleby.

He is survived by his close friend, Kitty Dinsmore, Fannettsburg, Pa.; two children: Mark Appleby and wife Sherri, Big Cove Tannery, and Tina Clark, Hustontown; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tracey Appleby; two sisters: Mary Jane Mellott and Joanne Appleby; and two brothers: Elwood Appleby and Ellis Clippinger.

He was a construction worker belonging to Union Local 542 Operating Engineers, Harrisburg.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of Landis McCleaf Marine Corps League, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1790, Mercersburg, several American Legion Posts including Harry Lackhove Post 517, Mercersburg; Wesley Yeager Post 606, Fort Loudon; Detrich Brechbill Post 612, St. Thomas; and Captain James McKibbin Post 561, McConnellsburg, VFW/FOVA Post 655, McConnellsburg, Fraternal Order of the Eagles 4274, Harrisonville, and Men of the Mountain, Fort Loudon.

He was able to spend his last days with friends and family in the home of Jack Clark and Stacie Scholl where Stacie served as his primary caregiver. The Appleby family expresses their thanks to them for their kindness.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, November 5, at M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown. Rev. Fred Chapin officiated. Interment was at Clear Ridge Cemetery, Hustontown.

Fulton Honor Guard provided military honors at the cemetery.
