FFA Members Participate In The Big E Experience

During the month of June, seven Warfordsburg FFA members participated in the Pennsylvania FFA State Career Development Events. All members proved to be well learned in their competitions and represented the chapter with pride and integrity.

One member, Grace Mosemann, placed high enough during the Activities Week to make school history and to have the honor to compete at the next highest level, The Eastern States Exposition.

The Eastern States Exposition FFA Day was held September 15 in Springfield, Mass., where Mosemann participated in the Dairy Cattle Handlers Career Development Event sponsored by the PA Dairymen’s Association. Throughout the strenuous 5-hour long competition, she was randomly given numerous dairy animals of all breeds and ages and was required to work with the animal in order to properly set it up to accentuate its best qualities at all angles. Judges walked around the ring throughout the timeframe, watching the handlers and reactions to their animals.

The Big E experience, ended with a FFA banquet for all participating FFA students from the many states represented. These members were from the Maine to Virginia, and included Kentucky, West Virginia and Ohio. A total of 12 states participated in the Dairy Cattle Handlers Career Development Event, with Mosemann and the other two Pennsylvania students placing third as a team. Individually, she placed 20th across the eastern states.
