Library Corner

Did you know that the library’s furnace went kaput earlier this summer? It was quite old, perhaps dating back to the pre-library days when this building housed the American Legion. A furnace for this size building is quite costly, so the library is raising the needed money through a booster raffle. The library has eight different baskets, including a lavender themed basket, a booklovers basket, dog lovers basket, a car care basket and gift certificates from Picaboo and OtterBox. Tickets are $10 each, which gives all a chance to win any of these great gifts. The drawing will take place on Saturday, October 6, here at the library. Need not be present to win! Browse through photos of these great baskets on Facebook or see them on display at the library.

Join at the library to meet others who are also homeschooling their children. See the library, investigate the many resources available here to assist with homeschooling, and learn how to support each other. Connect at the Homeschool Get-Together Monday, September 17, at 1:30 p.m.

The first set of Pop-Up libraries went terrifically. The library will be at Cathy’s Store each week through September on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.; and the continuing schedule will be determined later. The library spoke with seven people at the Pop-Up at Warfordsburg Senior Center held on the first and third Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Magazines, two books and two puzzles were checked out by those patrons. People of all ages are welcome at each of these locations, so keep up with schedules on the Web site or call 717-485-5327.

Our Fiction to Film Group selection is “The Zookeeper’s Wife” by Diane Ackerman. Discussion will be Wednesday, September 19, at 6:30 p.m. Get a book by coming to the library, or check out the audiobook on Hoopla. There’s still time to check out the DVD before the discussion September 19.

Pennsylvania Department of Health will be at the library on the third Wednesday of every month from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The focus on September 19, will be lead exposure. Join Teresa Leese, state health nurse, this and every month to learn more about health and get a free blood pressure screening.

Adult book club meets on the last Wednesday of each month. September 26 at 6:30 p.m., the discussion will be “The Song of Achilles” by Madeline Miller. Obtain a copy of the book or Kindle to read from the library.

Reminder to all that September is library card signup month. Get your free library card, i.e. a ticket to a world of information and entertainment.
