Fall Festival The Akersville fall festival will be held October 18, 19 and 20, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 3431 South Valley Road, Crystal Spring. Fifty spaces of crafters and vendors, good food, cost of food by donation, ice cream, antique cars and tractors, kids activities, raffles, live music and so much more. Come join in for a fun-filled family friendly day. From Route 30 take 915 south 2.5 miles; from I-70 take Crystal Spring Exit 151, to 915 north 3.5 miles.

X Card Shoots Fulton County Pistol & Rifle Club will hold X card shoots every Friday night at 7 p.m., September 14 thru November 16. Kitchen opens and registration starts at 5:30 p.m. Meat prizes and special rounds for cash or other prizes.

Barn Quilt Tour Fulton County Historical Society will hold a fall Frontier Barn Quilt bus tour Friday, October 19. The tour includes nearly 40 new and unique barn quilts in western Fulton County and a visit to the Akersville Fall Festival. The bus will leave the McConnellsburg Giant parking lot at 10 a.m., and arrive at Akersville for 1½ hours of shopping at more than 50 vendors of crafts, apparel, antiques; vintage farm equipment and more; display watching and lunch. After lunch, the tour will head south from Akersville in some of the most beautiful rural countryside in the Appalachian Mountain Range and return to the Giant parking lot around 3:30 p.m. More information and tickets are available by contacting Mike Crampton at 717-830-5953; or e-mail, info@frontierbarnquilttrail.com. Fall Fest Fall Fest at Hixon Bible Camp will be held Saturday, September 22, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Live music by Biscuits & Gravy starting at noon. Apple butter making all day. Great food, bake sale, pumpkins and mums for sale. Craft vendors, tractors, hayrides and more at 3472 McKees Gap Road, Warfordsburg.

NASCAR Trip A NASCAR Sprint Cup race bus trip is planned for October 7 to Dover International Speedway. Cost is $140 per person and includes race ticket and transportation. For more information contact Phil and Alice Miller at 717-377-2944. Sponsored by Shade Gap Fire Co.

Cruise-In For A Cause Cruise-In For A Cause will be held September 15 (rain or shine) at Thomas All Things Automotive, 21518 Great Cove Road, McConnellsburg, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. This event is being held to benefit Sandy Mellott of Needmore and Darryl Kipe who are battling cancer. A $10 donation is being accepted per registered vehicle with all donations going directly to Sandy and Darryl. Any year or type of cars, trucks or motorcycles are welcome. The first 50 registered vehicles will receive a thank-you gift bag. Food will be available for purchase by Hustontown Fire Co. Bake sale items will also be available. No alcoholic beverages. Cruisin Over Cancer As a part of Cruise-In For A Cause, those who have been affected by cancer will be recognized. Come plant a flower flag in the Cruisin Over Cancer garden in honor or memory of loved ones. All registered will be announced the day of the cruise-in. Cruise-In For A Cause will be held September 15 at Thomas All Things Automotive.

Needmore Parade Needmore firemen’s parade and ice cream social will be held September 8. Parade lineup will be at 5 p.m. and parade at 7 p.m.

Fulton Fatherhood Join Fulton Fatherhood August 31 at Saunderosa Camp playground for a dual cornhole event for both Fatherhood and Fatherhood and Teens. The fun starts at 6 p.m. Lights refreshments will be served.

FOOD AND DINING

Free Lunch Lunch will be served every first Friday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at McConnellsburg United Methodist Faith and Life Center, across from the courthouse. Parking available behind the church. Soup, sandwiches, salad bar, potato bar and dessert bar are served. Dine-in or carryouts with donations accepted.

Meals Available Once a month volunteers pack up boxes of food to be given to anyone in need in the Waterfall area. Pickup is at Center United Methodist Church community building on Doran Road, Waterfall. More information may be obtained by calling 814-685-3780. Calls will be kept strictly confidential.

Food Sale Whips Cove Church Missions will hold a soup, jelly, pickle and bake sale Thursday, September 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, September 7, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, September 8, from 8 a.m. to noon. Available soups will be chicken corn, vegetable, bean and chili along with many types of jellies and pickles. Lunch stand will be available each day. The church is located at 5044 Moss Road, Warfordsburg. All proceeds benefit missions of the church. For more information call 717-294-3108.

Turkey Dinners Breezewood Volunteer Fire Co. will hold turkey dinners September 9, October 14 and November 11, at 11 a.m. until sold out. Meals will be available to eat in or to take out. Mark calendars for trunk-or-treat October 27. Proceeds benefit Breezewood Volunteer Fire Co.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

Historical Society Tea Fulton County Historical Society will hold a fall tea September 22, at 11:30 a.m., in the banquet room at the museum annex, 211 Lincoln Way East, Mc- Connellsburg. Guest speaker will be Helen Overly. Tickets are $10 for adults and $4.50 for children less than 12. Ice Cream Festival Fairview United Methodist Church will hold an ice cream festival September 15. The church is located four miles north of Hustontown on North Hess Road. Homemade ice cream, soups, sandwiches, french fries and desserts will be for sale. Festivals begin at 4 p.m.

REUNIONS

Chilcote Reunion The Chilcote reunion will be held Sunday, September 9, at 12:30 p.m., at the home of Lawrence Chilcote, 549 Doran Road, Hustontown. Drinks and chicken provided. Shoemaker/Weller Reunion The descendants of Goldie (Weller) Shoemaker and Jacob Shoemaker will hold the 14th annual reunion Saturday, September 8, at Camp Harding Park, Pavilion 2, Pectonville Road, Big Pool, Md. Social hour will be at noon and eat at 1 p.m. Chicken, table settings and drinks provided. Bring hot or cold dish or dessert. Relatives and friends welcome.

FR/Hustontown Alumni Banquet Hustontown-Forbes Road alumni banquet will be held Saturday, October 6, at Hustontown Firehall. Doors open at 4 p.m. for visitation. The meal of ham and chicken will be served at 6 p.m. Cost is $11.50 per person. All graduates from both high schools are urged to attend. Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Monday morning at 11 a.m. (even holidays), at Fulton County Medical Center Community Health and Wellness building located at 294 Lincoln Way West and every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the basement of McConnellsburg alumni building, 301 East Maple Street. Both are open meetings and anyone can attend.

Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month from 10:30 a.m. to noon. When the third Monday is a holiday, the class is held the fourth Monday. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

Memory Loss Support Group A memory loss support group meets the third Tuesday monthly, at 6 p.m., in the Pearl Room at Fulton County Medical Center. Please use the south entrance. For more information call 717-485-6108.

Narcotics Anonymous Meets two times per week in Mc- Connellsburg. NA is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. Members share their successes and challenges in overcoming active addiction and living drug-free, productive lives through the application of the principles contained within the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of NA (patterned after Alcoholics Anonymous.) Anyone is welcome no matter what is used or how big the desire to stop using is. Hunter Trapper Course A Pennsylvania Game Commission Hunter Trapper Education Training Class will be held Saturday, September 15, at the DCNR District Forestry Building located north of McConnellsburg off Route 522. The class will begin at 8 a.m. sharp, so students need to arrive by 7:45 a.m. to receive class materials. Students must bring a packed lunch as no lunch is provided. Class will conclude at approximately 3 p.m., and parents need not remain with the students. Bulky Item Day Notice to Ayr and Todd Township and Mc- Connellsburg Borough residents: Fall bulky item day will be held Saturday, September 15, from 7 a.m. to noon, at the Ayr and Todd Township buildings. McConnellsburg Borough residents’ bulky items will be picked up on Friday, September 14. Please place items at the curb the night before. A detailed list of acceptable items is advertised in the “News.”

Preschool Story Hour Join in for songs, stories, and activities to help a child love reading from birth. Preschool Story Hour is held weekly at 10:30 a.m. Hustontown Branch Library hosts Tuesdays and McConnellsburg Library Wednesdays. After School At The Library Join in for After School at the Fulton County Library 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays in Mc- Connellsburg and 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., Wednesdays in Hustontown. Join together for board games or building or special events.

Farmer’s Market Vouchers Farmer’s market vouchers are still available at the Fulton County Area Agency on Aging. Individuals age 60 and over who have not yet received vouchers this year with income for a 1-person household less than $22,459 and a 2-person household less than $30,451 are eligible for the vouchers. Master Gardener Class A Penn State Extension Master Gardener class on sedum centerpieces will be held Saturday, October 6, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Extension office. Cost is $20. To register call 717-325-4871. Sharon Snyder will lead the workshop on sedums. Topics will include types of sedums, caring for them and using them to decorate within the home. Participants will be given an opportunity to make an indoor autumn centerpiece.

Master Gardener Class A new Master Gardener class is being formed for interested citizens of Fulton County. Classes will begin in October and consist of 40+ hours of training. An information session will be held Thursday, August 23, at 10 a. m., at the Victory Garden behind the McConnellsburg fire department. Chamber Events Once again, Fulton County Chamber will host vendors at the Fulton County alumni building for the Fulton

FFFF Chamber Directory Once again, the Fulton County

Chamber is putting together a directory for the Fulton Fall Folk Festival. Last year, 7,500 copies were printed. It is a great way to let the public know what you have planned for the Fulton Fall Folk Festival and a great way to get advertisement for a business. Consider advertising in the directory.

Operation Christmas Child Community Workshop Operation

Mum/ Aster Sale There will be a mums and asters sale at St. Stephen Catholic Church, McConnellsburg, Friday, September 7, from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m.; and on Saturday, September

8, at 8 a. m. There will also be apples, baked goods and RADA knives for sale. This is a fundraiser to benefit Tuscarora Catholic summer camp.

Scouts Accepting Members Troop 43, chartered by the United Presbyterian Church of McConnellsburg, is accepting boys ages 11- 17. RELIGION

Homecoming A cordial invitation is extended to everyone to the annual homecoming of Sideling Hill Christian Church, 10424 Sipes Mill Road, Needmore, September 2. Sunday School begins at 9: 30 a. m., followed by worship services with Rev. William Swope at 10: 30 a. m. A covered- dish lunch will be held at noon in the fellowship hall. Afternoon services begin at 1: 30 p. m. with special music by Sideling Hill Creek Singers and speaker will be Rodney Truax, pastor of Berkeley Springs Nazarene Church. The evening service is a hymn sing at 7 p. m.

Worship Service Friends of Tonoloway will hold annual fall worship services Sunday, October 7, at 2 p. m. The guest speaker will be Rev. Roger Myers, pastor of Brandts Church of the Brethren in Frankllin County. Pastor Myers has family relationships in the Tonoloway area. Special music will be provided by Sharon Mennonite Singers. Gospel In The Gap Gospel In The Gap will be held Sunday,

September 2, from 10: 30 a. m. to 3 p. m., at Cowans Gap State Park amphitheater with Crystal River, Dave Powers, The Beam Family and Old Friends. Have a picnic and listen to some good old gospel music. The Cowans Gap Chaplaincy Committee is providing burgers, hot dogs, drinks. Bring chips, a side dish or a dessert. A free will offering will be received to support the PA Council of Chuches Chaplains in the Park Ministry at Cowans Gap State Park. Join in for worship at 10: 30 a. m., or come after church for the picnic and music.

Ladies Day Retreat A Ladies Day Retreat will be held at Faith and Life Center of the McConnellsburg United Methodist Church Saturday, September 15, from 8: 30 a. m. to 4 p. m. Breakfast and get- acquainted will be rom 8: 30 a. m. to 9 a. m., and worship starting at 9 a. m. Lunch will also be pro - vided. Rehobeth Homecoming Rehobeth Cemetery Associa - tion’s annual homecoming service will be held at Rehobeth United Methodist Church Sunday, September 2, at 2 p. m.
