Robert C. Piper Jr.

Neelyton, 70

Robert C. Piper, Jr., 70, Neelyton, Pa., died Sunday, August 12, 2018, at J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.

Born April 23, 1948, at Shade Gap, he is survived by his father, Robert Piper Sr., and his stepmother, Geraldine Hancock Piper, Shade Gap. His mother, Alma (Kerlin) Piper, preceded him in death.

He was united in marriage to the former Donna Hockenberry December 23, 1971. She survives at their home.

He is also survived by two children: Lori Snyder and husband Joel, Blairs Mills, Pa., and Charles “Chuck” Piper and wife Tammy, Chambersburg; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three siblings: Judy Eichenlaub and husband Wayne, Blairs Mills; Bill Piper and wife Vickie, Shade Gap; and Randall Piper and wife Cathy, Burnt Cabins.

He was a member of Valley Point Church of the Brethren, Orbisonia, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.

He was also a member of Cromwell Lodge #572, F&AM, Orbisonia; Harrisburg Consistory; Shade Gap Lions Club; American Legion #561, McConnellsburg; and Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors. He had served as a Dublin Township supervisor since January 4, 1982, currently serving as chairman.

He retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission after 15 years service. Prior to that he was employed by Harbison-Walker Refractories at Mt. Union, Clearfield and Fulton, Mo. Throughout the years he also owned and operated a land surveying business. He received certificates from ASI Advance Schools and the Professional Land Surveyors Certificate in 1987. He was a graduate of Southern Huntingdon County High School in the Class of 1966.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam from November 1969 until November 1970 with the 66th Engineers Company. Following his service in Vietnam he was an instructor at Fort Bellvoir Topo-graghic Surveying in Virginia.

He was well known for his musical talents in singing and being able to play various instruments. He was also an avid hunter and was very fond of his beloved pet, “Nikki.”

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 17, at Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, Shade Gap, with Rev. Joel Snyder and Rev. Berry Brown officiating. Interment will be made at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Shade Gap, with full military honors accorded by Fulton Honor Guard. Friends may call at the church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Cromwell Lodge #572 will conduct a masonic funeral service at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.
