Fall Festival The Akersville fall festival will be held October 18 and 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 3431 South Valley Road, Crystal Spring. Fifty spaces of crafters and vendors, good food, cost of food by donation, ice cream, antique cars and tractors, kids activities, raffles, live music and so much more. Come join in for a fun-filled family friendly day. From Route 30 take 915 south 2.5 miles; from I70 take Crystal Spring Exit 151, to 915 north 3.5 miles.

Needmore Parade Needmore firemen’s parade and ice cream social will be held September 8. Parade lineup will be at 5 p.m. and parade at 7 p.m.

Fulton Fatherhood Join the Fulton Fatherhood August 31 at Saunderosa Camp playground for a dual cornhole event for both Fatherhood and Fatherhood and Teens. The fun starts at 6 p.m. Lights refreshments will be served.

Gun Bash Everett and Breezewood Fire Cos. will hold a gun bash August 25 at the Breezewood Firehall. Free food and refreshments from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. No takeouts. Bring lawn chairs and tents. Outside lighting provided. No one under the age of 18 is permitted. Ticket admits one for a donation of $10. Must have ticket to attend drawing. Doors open at 4 p.m.; drawing starts at 5 p.m. Need not be present to win.

FOOD AND DINING

Free Lunch Lunch will be served every first Friday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at McConnellsburg United Methodist Faith and Life Center, across from the courthouse. Parking available behind the church. Soup, sandwiches, salad bar, potato bar and dessert bar are served. Dine-in or carryouts with donations accepted.

Church Festival Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church festival will be held Saturday, August 18, at 5 p.m. Served will be country ham sandwiches, steamers, chili dogs, homemade soups, ice cream and pies. Music by Guilford Station Bluegrass Gospel Band.

PASR Picnic Notice to all retired teachers and other retired school employees: Fulton County PASR “I’m Not Going Back To School Picnic” will be held Wednesday, August 22, at McConnellsburg Lions Club Park pavilion at 11 a.m. All are invited and encouraged to attend. Contact other school retirees and invite all to attend. Bring items for the auction to benefit the scholarship and grant funds. Bring food, drinks, place settings, etc., to share for the noon meal. Visit friends and enjoy the fun. Share memories and experiences. Monetary donations to the Fulton County Food Basket are always welcomed.

Crab Fest A crab fest will be held Saturday, August 18, at 6:30 p.m., at the American Legion picnic grounds, Mc- Connellsburg. Sponsored by Freedom Hill Cemetery Association. Cost is $15 which includes door prizes and a DJ. Everyone is welcome to join in for an evening of crab feasting, fun and music.

Legion Picnic The American Legion picnic will be held August 26 at the picnic grounds. Tickets on sale at the Post.

Summer Feeding Program The summer feeding program will run through Friday, August 17, at Central Fulton High School cafeteria. During the summer, all children ages 18 and under, regardless of income status, can come between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. for a free breakfast and between the hours of 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for a free lunch.

Meals Available Once a month volunteers pack up boxes of food to be given to anyone in need in the Waterfall area. Pickup is at Center United Methodist Church community building on Doran Road, Waterfall. More information may be obtained by calling 814-685-3780. Calls will be kept strictly confidential.

Chicken BBQ Needmore Fire Co. will hold a chicken barbecue at the firehall Sunday, August 26.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

Ice Cream Festival Fairview United Methodist Church will hold an ice cream festival September 15. The church is located four miles north of Hustontown on North Hess Road. Homemade ice cream, soups, sandwiches, french fries and desserts will be for sale. Festivals begin at 4 p.m.

REUNIONS

Kuhn/Clevenger/Kendle Reunion The Kuhn-Clevenger- Kendle reunion will be held Sunday August 26, at 1 p.m. Note new location is Mercersburg Mennonite Church at 10060 Buchanan Trail West, Mercersburg. Please bring place settings, utensils and drinks for family and two dishes hot or cold to share. Don’t forget something for the auction. Any questions call Lori Group at 717-372-2655

Knepper Reunion The family of Jerre D. Knepper will hold a family reunion August 19, at 12:30 p.m., at Center Community building.

Fix Reunion The annual Fix reunion will be held Sunday, August 19, at Lions Club Community Park. Lunch will be at 12:30 p.m. Bring a gift for the white elephant sale.

MHS Class of 1978 Reunion McConnellsburg High School Class of 1978 will hold its 40th reunion October 20, at Great Cove Golf Course dining room. Contact Paul Johnston at 717-816-5442 for details and reservations.

Stahle Reunion The Stahle reunion will be held August 19 at Buck Valley Park. Meet at 12:30 p.m. and lunch is at 1 p.m. Bring a covered dish; chicken and ham provided.

Ford Reunion The 88th Ford reunion will be held August 18 at Wells Tannery park. Meal will be a noon followed with games for children and adults, a raffle, white elephant sale and a yard sale with donated items. All proceeds go to the reunion fund. A brief meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Bring a covered dish and a cake for the cake walk, a wrapped gift for the white elephant sale or items for the yard sale. Anyone related in any way to the Ford family is welcome to attend.

Knepper/ Shaver Reunion The 59th annual Knepper/Shaver reunion will be held Saturday, August 18, at Center United Methodist Church community building. Lunch is at 12:30 p.m. Please bring a covered dish and items for a silent auction. Games are planned for the children. All family and friends are welcome.

HEALTH

Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Monday morning at 11 a.m. (even holidays), at Fulton County Medical Center Community Health and Wellness building located at 294 Lincoln Way West and every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the basement of McConnellsburg alumni building, 301 East Maple Street. Both are open meetings and anyone can attend.

Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month from 10:30 a.m. to noon. When the third Monday is a holiday, the class is held the fourth Monday. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

Memory Loss Support Group A memory loss support group meets the third Tuesday monthly, at 6 p.m., in the Pearl Room at Fulton County Medical Center. Please use the south entrance. For more information call 717-485-6108.

Narcotics Anonymous Meets two times per week in Mc- Connellsburg. NA is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. Members share their successes and challenges in overcoming active addiction and living drug-free, productive lives through the application of the principles contained within the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of NA (patterned after Alcoholics Anonymous.) Anyone is welcome no matter what is used or how big the desire to stop using is. Sundays at 7 p.m. in Fulton County Medical Center Wellness Center, 294 Lincoln Way West (old Dollar General); Thursdays at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 228 North Second Street, Mc- Connellsburg (down the outside stairs). Introduction To Home Food Preservation An introduction to home food preservation workshop will be held Thursday, August 30, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Fulton County Community Health and Wellness Center, 294 Lincoln Way West, Mc- Connellsburg. Introduction to preserving will explain the scientific reasoning behind today’s methods for home food preservation and the basics of using a pressure canner. Cost is $15. Hunter Trapper Course A Pennsylvania Game Commission Hunter Trapper Education Training Class will be held Saturday, September 15, at the DCNR District Forestry Building located north of McConnellsburg off Route 522. The class will begin at 8 a.m. sharp, so students need to arrive by 7:45 a.m. to receive class materials. Students must bring a packed lunch as no lunch is provided. Class will conclude at approximately 3 p.m., and parents need not remain with the students. Bulky Item Day Notice to Ayr and Todd Township and Mc- Connellsburg Borough residents: Fall bulky item day will be held Saturday, September 15, from 7 a.m. to noon, at the Ayr and Todd Township buildings. McConnellsburg Borough residents’ bulky items will be picked up on Friday, September 14. Please place items at the curb the night before. A detailed list of acceptable items will be advertised in the “News.”

Safe Food Handling Class A volunteers guide to safe food handling will be held Thursday, August 23, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Green Hill Sewing Club, Harrisonville. Anyone involved in preparing food for church fundraisers, fire company barbecues, booster club hoagie sales or other events to raise money should attend this workshop. Cost is $50/organization (2-4 people), each additional person is $5 or $25 for individual registration.

Master Gardener Class A new Master Gardener class is being formed for interested citizens of Fulton County. Classes will begin in October and consist of 40+ hours of training. An information session will be held Thursday, August 23, at 10 a.m., at the Victory Garden behind the McConnellsburg fire department. Chamber Events Once again, Fulton County Chamber will host vendors at the Fulton County alumni building for the Fulton Fall Folk Festival. Any vendor looking for a venue for the third weekend in October, consider the event. Contact Kathy Gable at 717-485-4064 for more info. Deadline for registration is September 21, 2018.

FFFF Chamber Directory Once again, the Fulton County Chamber is putting together a directory for the Fulton Fall Folk Festival. Last year, 7,500 copies were printed. It is a great way to let the public know what you have planned for the Fulton Fall Folk Festival and a great way to get advertisement for a business. Consider advertising in the directory. Scouts Accepting Members Troop 43, chartered by the United Presbyterian Church of McConnellsburg, is accepting boys ages 11-17. RELIGION

FR Back- To- School Prayer Night Plan to attend the back- to -school prayer night Monday, August 20, at Forbes Road High School at 7 p. m., in the high school auditorium. Everyone is welcome to attend: parents, students, faculty, staff, friends, relatives and community members. Cover the area schools with a blanket of prayers to begin the new school year. Starting Tuesday, August 28, from 7: 30 a. m. to 7: 45 a. m., the school will begin a morning prayer group. This is open to all administrators, faculty, staff, students and community members. They will meet every Tuesday morning that school is in session in the high school auditorium.

Revival One Accord community revival will be held Sunday,

August 26, at 6 p. m., and Monday thru Friday at 7 p. m., at McConnell Park bandshell. Speaker will be Pastor Rob Mc- Corkle with community churches leading nightly worship. Bring chairs.

Homecoming Celebration Bethel Cito AME Church will hold its 115th year homecoming celebration August 19. Services will begin at noon. Preacher of the hour will be Rev. Diane

L. Jefferson, who is the pastor. The celebration will be featuring the gospel group Divine Messengers from Washington, D. C. For more information call 717- 830- 6283.

Summer Of Praise Summer of Praise will be held August 18 at Hidden Valley Farm, 17739 Great Cove Road, Mc- Connellsburg. Featured priase group is James Gunnell and the Chris Hill band. Grilled chicken meal begins at 5: 30 p. m. Faith and Fitness witness team at 5: 45 p. m. Praise band at 6: 30 p. m. along with a children’s ministry. No admission or charge for the meal. Held rain or shine in the arena. Bring chairs.

Revival Walnut Grove Church of God in Maddensville will hold revival at the fellowship building August 26- 29. There will be free food and ice cream each evening from 6 p. m. to 6: 45 p. m. Services begin at 7 p. m. with special speakers and music. Bring lawn chairs. All are welcome.
