Needmore Parade Needmore firemen’s parade and ice cream social will be held September 8. Parade lineup will be at 5 p.m. and parade at 7 p.m.

Senior Center Social Night Warfordsburg Senior Center will host a social night Saturday, July 28. Seniors 60 and older come and enjoy an evening of DJ music. Bring a covered dish; meat is furnished by the club. Meal is at 5 p.m. Music will start shortly after. For more information call 717-294- 6020.

Fall Baseball Registration Registration for fall baseball will be held until August 4 for ages 8-12 who are eligible to play Little League in the spring. For information contact Dan Kendall at 717-97-3916.

Free Outdoor Movie A free outdoor movie, “Ice Age Continental Drift,” will be shown at Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church Friday, July 27. Fun and food at 6:30 p.m. and movie at dusk. Bring chairs and blankets.

Special Music Benefit Kenton Stitch Band will perform at McConnellsburg Alumni Building, 301 East Maple Street, McConnellsburg, August 11. Showtime is 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. General admission is $5 or $10 for VIP (first five rows). All ages show. Listen for ad on WAYZ 104.7 Greencastle. Wells Tannery Homecoming The 71st annual Wells Tannery Homecoming and car show will be held Saturday, July 28. The traditional parade will start at 11 a.m. and end at the community park where great food will be available. Hot roast beef sandwiches and barbecue chicken will be available plus many delicious sides and desserts including ice cream. Kids’ activities will be available. The ninth annual car and truck show will be at the park from noon to 4 p.m. Live music by “Washington Slept Here” from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Trophies will be awarded and registration will be from noon to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $10. Corn Hole Tournament Shade Gap Area Fire Co. will hold a corn hole tournament Saturday, August 4, at 2 p.m., at the firehall during the annual Shade Gap Picnic. Cost is $50/team. Contact Tanner Locke with any questions at 814-599-1536 or tannerlocke0@gmail.com.

Gun Bash Everett and Breezewood Fire Cos. will hold a gun bash August 25 at the Breezewood Firehall. Free food and refreshments from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. No takeouts. Bring lawn chairs and tents. Outside lighting provided. No one under the age of 18 is permitted. Ticket admits one for a donation of $10. Must have ticket to attend drawing. Doors open at 4 p.m.; drawing starts at 5 p.m. Need not be present to win.

Shade Gap Picnic The 135th annual Shade Gap Picnic will be held at Harpers Memorial Park, Shade Gap, July 29 thru August 4. The annual parade will be held Monday at 7 p.m. Fireworks will be held Saturday at 11 p.m. Little Miss Princess contest will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and entertainment Thursday – “The Little Roy and Lizzy Show” and “Baily’s Crossing”; Friday – Fabulous Flashbacks and Saturday – Crooked Line and Joe Bonson and Coffee Run.

FOOD AND DINING

Free Lunch Lunch will be served every first Friday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at McConnellsburg United Methodist Faith and Life Center, across from the courthouse. Parking available behind the church. Soup, sandwiches, salad bar, potato bar and dessert bar are served. Dine-in or carryouts with donations accepted.

Festival Laurel Ridge Christian Church of Big Cove Tannery will hold its annual festival Saturday, August 11, at 5 p.m., rain or shine. Plenty of homemade soups and baked goods, barbecues, hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, soda and homemade ice cream. Music provided by “Mercy Vessel” and activities for youths. All are welcome.

Infantry Picnic The 15th Reunion of the 314th Infantry will be held Saturday, August 4, starting at noon until dusk at the American Legion picnic grounds on McGoverns Lane near McConnellsburg. The meal will begin at 3 p.m. and cost is $9 for adults (9 years and up). Any children 8 years and below are free. The menu consists of tenderloin sandwiches, hot dogs, baked potato, macaroni salad, applesauce and punch. Breakfast is also available. Bring own drinks. Plastic cups will be available, if needed. Festival Whips Cove Church, 5044 Moss Road, Warfordsburg, will hold its annual festival Saturday, August 4, at 5 p.m. There will be games for all ages, dart throw, dime pitch and a guess cake. Cake walks beginning at 7:30 p.m. There will also be a silent auction, homemade chicken corn and bean soup, steamers, hot dogs and french fries. Homemade ice cream and pies also. Ice Cream Festival Fairview United Methodist Church will hold an ice cream festival September 15. The church is located four miles north of Hustontown on North Hess Road. Homemade ice cream, soups, sandwiches, french fries and desserts will be for sale. Festivals begin at 4 p.m.

REUNIONS

McKee Reunion The annual McKee reunion will be held Saturday, August 4, at Lions Park behind Warfordsburg Senior Center. Lunch time is 1 p.m. Please bring a covered dish. Bring items for the silent auction. Family and friends are welcome.

Hann Reunion Family and friends of Jacob and Dovie Mellott Hann will hold a reunion Sunday, August 5, at 12:30 p.m., at Donald Snyder’s pavilion, 1260 Beatty Road, Needmore. Bring a covered dish, photos, family stories and friends.

Rhodes Reunion The Rhodes reunion will be held Sunday, August 5, at noon, at the James Buchanan Birthplace, Stony Batter Road, Mercersburg, near Little Cove. Bring a covered dish and an item for grab bags. The reunion is for the descendants of John Rhodes and his two wives, Margaret Cooper Rhodes and Annie Alice McCullough Rhodes.

Knepper/ Shaver Reunion The 59th annual Knepper/Shaver reunion will be held Saturday, August 18, at Center United Methodist Church community building. Lunch is at 12:30 p.m. Please bring a covered dish and items for a silent auction. Games are planned for the children. All family and friends are welcome.

Back Run School Reunion Back Run School will hold its 19th reunion Saturday, August 4, at Calvary Independent Baptist Church social hall, Rte. 522 north, 140 McGoverns Lane. Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Monday morning at 11 a.m. (even holidays), at Fulton County Medical Center Community Health and Wellness building located at 294 Lincoln Way West and every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the basement of McConnellsburg alumni building, 301 East Maple Street. Both are open meetings and anyone can attend.

Narcotics Anonymous Meets two times per week in Mc- Connellsburg. NA is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. Members share their successes and challenges in overcoming active addiction and living drug-free, productive lives through the application of the principles contained within the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of NA (patterned after Alcoholics Anonymous.) Anyone is welcome no matter what is used or how big the desire to stop using is. Sundays at 7 p.m. in Fulton County Medical Center Wellness Center, 294 Lincoln Way West (old Dollar General); Thursdays at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 228 North Second Street, Mc- Connellsburg (down the outside stairs). Meals Available Once a month volunteers pack up boxes of food to be given to anyone in need in the Waterfall area. Scouts Accepting Members Troop 43, chartered by the United Presbyterian Church of McConnellsburg, is accepting boys ages 11- 17. SF Pre- K Registration Southern Fulton Pre- K Counts is expanding thanks to an increase in state funding. The program will be offered to 34 students in the elementary building.

Applications are now being accepted for enrollment in this program. Eligible families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to avoid missing out on this valuable educational opportunity.

Summer Feeding Program The summer feeding program will run through Friday, August 17, at Central Fulton High School cafeteria. During the summer, all children ages 18 and under, regardless of income status, can come between 8 a. m. and 9 a. m. for a free breakfast and between the hours of 11 a. m. and 12: 30 p. m. for a free lunch.

RELIGION

FR Back- To- School Prayer Night Plan to attend the backto school prayer night Monday, August 20, at Forbes Road High School at 7 p. m., in the high school auditorium. Everyone is welcome to attend: parents, students, faculty, staff, friends, relatives and community members. Cover the area schools with a blanket of prayers to begin the new school year. Starting Tuesday, August 28, from 7: 30 a. m. to 7: 45 a. m., the school will start a morning prayer group. This is open to all administrators, faculty, staff, students and community members. They will meet every Tuesday morning that school is in session in the high school auditorium.

Camp Meeting Crystal Spring camp meeting will be held August 3- 12. Daily activities with special nightly services at 7: 30 p. m. Evangelists are Rev. Carl Schmidt (Aug. 3- 7), and Pastor Mark Lingenfelter (Aug. 8- 12). Special nightly singers and special Sunday afternoon concerts.
