Commissioners Stuart Ulsh, Rodney McCray, and Pete Lynch met with Susan Cubbage, Food Basket director, at their weekly meeting July 3 regarding the State Food Purchase Program, which provides cash grants to counties for the purchase and distribution of food to low-income individuals.

The program is intended to supplement the efforts of food pantries, soup kitchens, food banks, feeding programs, shelters for the homeless and similar organizations to reduce hunger, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Web site. After discussion the commissioners moved to authorize signatures on the State Food Purchase Program State Purchase Option Participation Statement.

In other business last Tuesday, Chief Probation Officer Dan Miller met with the commissioners regarding signatures on the Intermediate Punishment Grant revising approved amounts. The commissioners also met with the tax assessment board regarding Big Bite Real Estate.
