Junior Girl Scout Troop 81404 of Mc- Connellsburg spent last week in Savannah, Ga., on a troop trip to see where Girl Scouting began in the United States. Juliette Gordon Low founded Girl Scouts of the United States in 1912 in Savannah where she was born.

The troop participated in programs at the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace and the First Girl Scout Headquarters, taking tours and practicing skills like Morse code and making slip knots for burglars. The girls also visited Natural Bridge on the way to Georgia and Tybee Island for a dolphin tour, seining for minnows, a marsh hike, and swimming. For some girls, this was their first time seeing the ocean. They completed four badges on this trip.

Girls who will be in kindergarten through 12th grade this fall can register for the new Girl Scouting year now at www.gshpa.org.
