PennDOT District 9 Continues “Paint the Plow” Program

Hollidaysburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 9 is continuing its “Paint the Plow” program. The success of the program is affording PennDOT the opportunity to continue the initiative to high schools and career technical schools in each of the district’s six counties: Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon and Somerset, as well as elementary schools in Huntingdon County.

PennDOT District 9 has sent application information to the applicable schools. The schools are asked to return their applications by June 29, 2018.

“We have seen the expansion of the program grow extensively since its inception, not only within our district but across the state. The participation and enthusiasm from both the students and communities across our district has been overwhelming,” stated Thomas Prestash, district executive for PennDOT District 9.

Once the plow blades are delivered to the schools, they will paint the plows with a winter safety theme, this year the theme “Know Before You Go” will be used for all plows. Entries will be judged through a voting process wherein a panel of judges will vote on the plows in each county and there will also be a “Fan Favorite” which will be determined through a Facebook campaign that is open to the general public.

When the contest is over the blades will be mounted to a plow truck in the areas of the respective school districts.
