County Discusses Emergency Management

By Cassidy Pittman

Hustontown Fire Chief Jeff Black met with commissioners Stuart Ulsh, Rodney McCray, and Pete Lynch during their weekly meeting June 5 to discuss emergency management issues and answer questions. Afterwards, the commissioners met with Sid McConahy from Mission Critical Partners Inc. and county solicitor Stanley Kerlin to adopt Ordinance No. 1 of 2018. The ordinance will approve the expansion of the Intergovernmental Cooperation Agreement for Emergency 911 services.

According to Chapter 23, Title 53 of the Pennsylvania General Assembly Consolidated Statutes, an intergovernmental cooperation agreement is defined as two or more local governments in the commonwealth that jointly cooperate, or any local government may jointly cooperate with any similar entities located in any other state, in the exercise or in the performance of their respective governmental functions, powers or responsibilities. Lastly, commissioners moved to enter into an expansion of the Southern Alleghenies 911 Cooperative Intergovernmental Cooperation Agreement that was originally effective Feb. 17, 2015. The agreement will now include Cambria, Centre, and Somerset counties and supersedes the previous agreement.
