Lady Spartans Win Semifinal Game

Coming into the District 5 Class AA semifinals May 29, the Lady Spartans (11- 10) were the underdog against the number two-seeded Shanksville Vikings (14-5). McConnellsburg got a run in the first, one in the third, three in the fourth, and two in the seventh to earn a berth in the District 5 Class AA championship game against defending champion Meyersdale, who beat Hyndman Charter 19-4. Madison Koontz led the Lady Spartans hitting attack, going three for four. Matty Ross, Kailey Swope and Destine Hall had two hits each. Hall hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh and picked up the win from the mound. This will be the first trip to the district championship in school history for a program that got its start in 1992 when the team played an eight-game exhibition schedule.

Lady Spartans Lose District 5A Softball Final

McConnellsburg 1

McConnellsburg (11-11) was not expected to make it to the District 5 Class A Softball Championship, but the Lady Spartans made school history last Thursday afternoon when they competed for the District 5A title against Meyersdale. They fell to a very talented opponent 6-1. Meyersdale outhit McConnellsburg 10 to 6. Madison Koontz and Matty Ross led the Lady Spartans, both going 2 for 4.
