John M. Hockensmith

John M. Hockensmith, 99, Harrisonville, died Friday, June 1, 2018, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg.

He was born in Harrisonville, September 16, 1918, the son of the late Helen (DeShong) and John Hockensmith. He was the husband of Juanita M. (Melius) Hockensmith, whom he married September 12, 1941.

He served two years in England during World War II in the Army Air Corps and then worked at the Navy Ships Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg. After retiring in the late ‘70s, he moved back to Fulton County where he enjoyed gardening and hunting. He was very creative, mechanically inclined and made many charitable contributions during his life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael P. (husband of Dorothy) Hockensmith, Tennessee; a daughter, Suzanne M. Hockensmith Bressler (wife of Greg), Florida; a son, Dale L. (husband of Amy) Hockensmith, Enola, Pa.; a son, Scott A. (husband of Kris) Hockensmith, Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Betsy K. Hockensmith White (wife of Doug), Mechanicsburg; a daughter-in-law, Chris Hockensmith, Carlisle; a sister, Betty Considine, Maryland; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dean M. Hockensmith; a sister, Myrna Myers; and a brother, Richard P. Hockensmith.

A Celebration of Life was held at Greenhill Sewing Club, Harrisonville, at 4 p.m., Sunday, June 3. Interment was private at the convenience of the family.
