Margaret S. Hershey

Margaret S. Hershey, 100, formerly of Three Springs, died Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at AristaCare at Woodland Park, Orbisonia, Pa.

Born January 8, 1918, at Saltillo, she was a daughter of the late John B. Sr. and Pearl (Gress) Shope. She was united in marriage to Charles Hershey August 5, 1950. He preceded in death October 1, 1983.

She is survived by three siblings: Miriam Nonemaker, Waterfall; Richard Shope, Three Springs; and Beverly Laidig, Shippensburg, and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: John Jr., David and Orren Shope, and four sisters: Ruth Seamen, Evelyn Shope, Carolyn Chamberlain and Audrey Hamman.

She was a member of Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Saltillo. She had also been a life member of the former Saltillo United Methodist Church, prior to its closing, where she was active in the ladies bowling league.

She was a 1934 graduate of Saltillo High School where she was a star player on the girls basketball team and was an avid reader. She enjoyed watching baseball on television, especially the Atlanta Braves. Her favorite television show was “Jeopardy.”

She was mainly a homemaker during her life, however, during World War II she worked at Western Electric, Inc., Baltimore, Md.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 26, at Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Saltillo. Pastor Dan Long officiated. Interment was at Saltillo Cemetery.
