Southern Fulton OKs Tentative 2018-19 Budget

Tentative 2018-19 budget raises taxes by less than one mill

At their monthly meeting in May last Tuesday, Southern Fulton School board members approved the tentative 2018-19 budget at a total of $12,525,021 and to set taxes as follows: real estate taxes – 26.30133760 mills; Section 679 per capita taxes – $5, Act 511 per capita taxes – $5, earned income tax – 1 percent; real estate transfer tax – 1 percent. The board also approved the 2018-19 Fulton County AVTS budget in the amount of $1,063,690.

Also approved was the list of seniors eligible for the Southern Fulton High School 2018 graduation pending all graduation requirements are met.


The school board accepted, with regret, the letter of resignation from Scott Varner as the varsity boys head soccer coach, and then approved him for a paid volunteer for the varsity boys assistant basketball coach for the 2018-19 school year.

Olivia Mottern was approved as an unpaid volunteer junior high girls assistant basketball coach for the 2018-19 school year.

Nancy Shearer and Karen Solomon were approved as substitute van drivers for M&C Lumber pending completion of all clearances. Shearer was also approved as a driver for Lynda Strait.

Robin Binder-Heath was approved as solicitor for the 2018- 19 school year at a rate of $115/hour for general legal services and negotiations and $130/hour for litigation services.

Timothy Mellott of Beard Legal Group PC, was approved as special counsel for the 2018-19 school year at a rate of $135/hour for special education, negotiations, labor, employment, and litigation.

The following additional taxes were also approved: elementary breakfast: $1.05, elementary lunch: $2, high school breakfast: $1.30, high school lunch: $2.30, and adult lunch: $3.60.

Metz Inc. was approved as a food service provider for the 2018-19 school year at a loss of $89,043.84.


The following Southern Fulton sports teams were approved to use the elementary/high school gym for sport camps: Cheerleaders will use the elementary gym on July 12 and 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for cheerleading camp. The volleyball team will use the elementary gym on June 11 through June 20 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for volleyball camp. The girls basketball team will use the high school gym on June 18 through June 20 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. for grades 4-9 basketball camp.

The board approved a commercial real estate broker regarding the property at 12901 Buck Valley Rd, Warfordsburg. They also approved a proposal from Minoan Industrial Services for the Souther Fulton elementary school waste water treatment tank re-coating.

Board members present were Allen Morton, Patrick Bard, Jeff Hull, Kirk Layton, Richard Morgan, Timothy Mellott, Mark Mosemann and Donnie Gordon. Also in attendance were Tara Will, superintendent; Meredith Hendershot, high school principal; Terry Bard, high school vice principal; Kathy Cutchall, elementary principal; Diane Younker, special education director; Doug Leisher, technology specialist; John Bain, buildings and grounds supervisor; Debra Schetrompf, business manager; MaryAnn Johnson, board secretary, Kierstyn Morton, student representative; and Ally Layton, student representative. Visitors present were: Judy Schriver, Brian Pittman, and Matt Sfarro.
