Graves To Be Decorated Fulton County Honor Guard will be decorating veterans graves at Union Cemetery at 1 p.m. May 17 for anyone wishing to help.

Rabies Clinic A rabies vaccination clinic will be held Saturday, June 2, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Wells Tannery Community Park. Cost is $10/animal. Other vaccines, wormers, flea product and microchpis will be available. Booster shots given with presentation of prior vaccination certificate. Dog license and toenail trimming also available. Proceeds benefit Wells Valley Presbyterian Church.

Work Sites Offered Employment and Training, Inc. of Fulton County is recruiting for out-of-school youths ages 16-24 for the work experience program. Individuals will be placed at host work sites fitting to his/her interests and must meet WIOA eligibility to participate. All jobs are with local employers for 30 hours per week at $8 per hour. School Registration Hope Christian Academy is accepting applications for the 2018-2019 school year. Kindergarten through sixth grade is offered. HCA is located at 23170 Great Cove Road, McConnellsburg, along Route 522. Call 717-375-5078 for a registration packet. Registration fee is $50 per student through May. Beginning June 1 the fee is $75 per student. After August 1, the fee is $100 per student.

Meals Available Once a month volunteers pack up boxes of food to be given to anyone in need in the Waterfall area. Pickup is at Center United Methodist Church community building on Doran Road, Waterfall. More information may be obtained by calling 814-685-3780. Calls will be kept strictly confidential.

Farmer’s Market Vouchers The Area Agency on Aging will once again be distributing Farmer’s Market vouchers at the office beginning Monday, June 4. Proxy forms are now available at senior centers and the office on aging for individuals picking up vouchers for persons unable to get vouchers for themselves. Income guidelines and dates and times that vouchers will be distributed at senior centers will be purchased by the end of May. More information may be obtained by calling 485-5151.

Community Food Giveaway A community food giveaway will be held Saturday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., or while supplies last, at Rehoboth New Life Church, 8159 Great Cove Road, Needmore, formerly the Fulton Co. Christian School. All are welcome. No eligibility guidelines.

Summer Feeding Program The summer feeding program will begin Monday, June 4, and run through Friday, August 17, at Central Fulton High School cafeteria. During the summer, all children ages 18 and under, regardless of income status, can come between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. for a free breakfast and between the hours of 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., for a free lunch.

Olla Workshop Penn State Extension Master Gardeners will hold a workshop on Olla Saturday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the extension office, 610 East North Street, Mc- Connellsburg. Cost is $25. To register call 717-325-4871. Master Gardener Bridgit Martin has used this ancient method of watering for years. Learn about the history of ollas and how they support root health and protect leaves from fungus. All participants will have an opportunity to make and take an olla for use in home gardens.

Book Sale More than 60,000 new and used books of all types plus CDs, DVDs, audio books, puzzles, board games and artwork will be offered for sale at the 34th annual Friends of Legal Services book sale at Laird Hall on the Wilson College campus in Chambersburg May 18 and 19. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, May 18; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 19; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 20.

Scouts Accepting Members Troop 43, chartered by the United Presbyterian Church of McConnellsburg, is accepting boys age 11-17. Blueberry Sale Fulton County 4-H Clubs are taking orders for 10-lb. boxes of large, clean blueberries for $29. Delivery is Friday, June 29. Contact a 4-H’er or call 717-325-4871 to place an order. Last day to place orders is June 6.

RECREATION

Relay For Life Relay For Life will be held June 15, from 3 p.m. to midnight, at McConnellsburg High School track. Survivors reception will be held in the high school cafeteria at 6 p.m. Luminaria ceremony will be held at 9 p.m. There will be lots of raffle items for participants and the public with the drawing to be held at 10 p.m. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Youth Shoots Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Club will host youth shoots Friday, May 18 and 25. This is a free event for all youths ages 16 and under. Guns and shells are provided. Registration is from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Kitchen will be open.

Fishing Rodeo There will be a Fishers Of Men fishing tournament

Saturday, May 19, at Sinoquipe Boy Scout Camp, 677 Boy Scout Road, Fort Littleton. There also will be a .22 shoot, prizes and pig roast. Beginning at 2 p.m. will be a time of worship and hearing from God’s word around a campfire. Registration will start at 1 p.m. at the front gate of the scout camp.

Lifeguard Class American Red Cross will offer a lifeguard class starting June 1, at James Buchanan High School pool. Anyone who is 15 years old and can pass the prerequisite in swimming can take the course. Any questions contact Instructor Kathy Kendall at 717-377-3643.

Cambree 5K The second annual Can’t Catch Cambree 5K color run/walk will be held Saturday, June 30. Race time is 9 a.m. and registration opens at 7 a.m. Preregister by June 16 to receive a shirt. Indoor Yard Sale North End Garden Club will hold an indoor yard sale in the library community room Friday, May 18, at 8:30 a.m.

Strawberry Festival The 28th annual Strawberry Festival is on schedule for Friday and Saturday, June 8 and June 9. Activities begin at 10 a.m. each day. Good food and fellowship every day. Friday features popular country music recording artist Glen Shelton performing at 7 p.m., on the bandshell stage. Saturday features old-fashioned band concert by Mercersburg Community Band at noon. Saturday morning kicks off with the 5K Strawberry Stampede Run/Walk. Children’s activities, handcrafted products and information booths plus delicious strawberry shortcake, pies, waffles and other treats.

Bike Ride Team No One Fights Alone will hold a bike ride Saturday, June 9, at Harpers Memorial Park, Shade Gap. Registration is from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and kick stands up at noon. Food will be provided after the ride. Cost is $20 per bike and $10 for passenger. Cars are welcome to participate at $20 per car. Post 518 will hold a dance with “SOS” from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Madden Winnick Post 518, Orbisonia. If not riding but want to attend and enjoy the entertainment at the post after the ride, a donation of $10 is appreciated. Gun Bash Hancock Fire Co. will hold a spring gun bash Saturday, May 19, at the fire and rescue property on Sensel Road. Cost is $20 per ticket. Spring Fling Bedford Chapel Church, 4570 Flickerville Road, Warfordsburg, will hold its first spring fling May 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be vendors and a food stand with soup and sandwiches. Lots of baked goods. Come and browse. Donations accepted. Everyone welcome.

Senior Social Night Warfordsburg Senior Center will host a social night Saturday, May 19. Seniors 60 and older come and enjoy an evening of DJ music. Bring a covered dish; meat is furnished by the club at 5 p.m Music will start shortly after. For more information call 717-294-6020.

Fishing Rodeo Fulton County Sportsmen’s League will hold its annual open house and fishing rodeo for children 12 and younger at the trout nursery Sunday, May 20. Registration for the children will start at 10 a.m. Adults are permitted to assist children to bait the hook and net the fish. Adults are not permitted to fish on this section of stream at any time. This is a special regulation stream for children 12 years of age and younger only. Register children at the desk beside the food stand in order to be eligible for door prizes and to receive a handout listing the rules. Fishing will begin at noon and the drawing for the annual spring raffle will be at 3 p.m. A special door prize raffle for a wooden fishing art plaque will be held. Purchase tickets at the clothing and raffle table. Winning tickets will be drawn at 3 p.m. The food stand, operated by the Sportsmen Club, will have a variety of food available.

MHS Graduation McConnellsburg High School will hold baccalaureate services May 29, at 7 p.m., and graduation services May 31, at 7 p.m., in the high school auditorium. A ticket is needed for admittance.

New York City Trip Modern Woodmen of America, Camp 7848, is sponsoring an on-your-own trip to New York City June 9. Price is $50 per person which includes a buffet breakfast. Pickup at McConnellsburg courthouse at 6 a.m. Estimated arrival in New York is 11:15 a.m. near Macy’s. Leave New York at 6:15 p.m., near Times Square. Free Lunch Lunch will be served every first Friday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at McConnellsburg United Methodist Faith and Life Center, across from the courthouse. Parking available behind the church. Soup, sandwiches, salad bar, potato bar and dessert bar are served. Dine-in or carryouts with donations accepted.

Spaghetti Fundraiser Hancock Lioness Lions Club will hold a spaghetti fundraiser Friday, May 18, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Widmeyer Park Lions pavilion in Hancock. Served with Mrs. Kern’s spaghetti sauce, salad, rolls, dessert and beverage. Cost is by donation. Donate used eyeglasses and hearing aids also. In case of severe weather, event rescheduled.

Chicken BBQ Breezewood Volunteer Fire Co. will hold its annual chicken barbecue and cruise-in Sunday, May 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The day will also include live music, games and a variety of craft and vendor booths. For more information watch the Facebook page or call 814-735-4418.

Survivors Dinner A survivors dinner for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life will be held Friday, June 15, at 6 p.m., in McConnellsburg High School cafeteria. Garden Club Meeting North End Garden Club will meet May 22 at the library.

Historical Society Meeting A meeting of Fulton County Historical Society museum volunteers will be held Thursday, May 17, at 1 p.m., at the Fulton House. Tours and scheduling are planned. For anyone missing this meeting, another meeting will be held Saturday, May 19, at 10 a.m.

Vo-Tech Meeting Fulton County Area Vocational Technical School will hold an information gathering meeting to address community questions/concerns related to Forbes Road School District’s requested intent to withdraw from Fulton County Vocational Consortium. The public is invited to attend this information gathering meeting Thursday, May 24, at 7 p.m., at Hustontown Firehall.

PASR Meeting All school retirees are encouarged to attend the Fulton PASR spring meeting May 22 at 10:30 a.m., in the McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church basement at the corner of South Second and Maple streets. Sportsmen’s League Meeting Fulton County Sportsmen’s League will meet at 7 p.m. in the stone house at the trout nursery May 18. Plans for the open house and children’s fishing rodeo to be held May 20 will be finalized.

MEMORIAL SERVICES

Memorial/Homecoming Timber Ridge Cemetery Association and Antioch Christian Church invite all to its memorial and homecoming service Sunday, June 3, at 2 p.m., at Antioch Christian Church, 7902 Timber Ridge Road, Big Cove Tannery. Included will be gospel music and a memorial message by Pastor Russell Hoffman, followed by fellowship at the adjacent pavilion. Meat, beverage and table settings will be furnished. Bring favorite covered dish to share. All are welcome.

Memorial Services Tonoloway Cemetery Assoc. will hold annual memorial services Sunday, May 20, at 2 p.m., at Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church. Speaker will be Pastor Rodney Truax. Special music by Pastor Truax and his family. Refreshments will be served after the services.

Memorial Day Service The 74th annual Memorial Day service will be held at Wells Valley United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., Monday, May 28, with Merrill Arnold as guest speaker. A light luncheon will be provided after the service.

Memorial Day Services Damascus Cemetery Association will hold its annual Memorial Day service Sunday, May 27, at 2 p.m. Guest speaker will be Pastor Terry Martin-Minnich from Hancock Presbyterian Church. Entertainment will be provided by Victory Express. There will be a covered dish lunch at noon in the church social hall. All are welcome to attend.

Memorial Services Jerusalem Christian Church Cemetery Assoc., 273 Church Road, Warfordsburg, will hold Memorial Day services May 20, at 2 p.m. Guest speaker will be Frank McKee and musical guest will be Vernon Clingerman.

RELIGION

Special Music McCbg. United Methodist Church presents an evening of music and praise in memory of Mike and Fred Stenger Sunday, May 20, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the church’s Faith and Life Center. All are welcome!

Special Services Bailey’s Crossing will perform at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 10987 Little Cove Road, Mercersburg, Sunday, June 3. They will provide special music, sponsored by Mt. Zion Union Cemetery Association, at the annual homecoming services beginning at 10 a.m. The services is held once a year to honor community graduates and longtime members. All contributions received that day, unless designated otherwise, are used for the upkeep and maintenance of the surrounding cemetery. The cemetery is maintained solely from voluntary contributions. Everyone is invited to stay for lunch immediately following services.

Bible School Vacation Bible School will be held at Fairview United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, June 11-15, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday thru Thursday and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday with a program at 7:15 p.m. The theme is Camp Moose On The Loose. Discover God’s forever forgiveness. If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins (I John 1:9). All are welcome.

FR Class Of 1978 Reunion Forbes Road Class of 1978 will hold a 40th class reunion May 19 at the CVAEMA show grounds, 1501 Criders Church Road, Chambersburg, at 4 p.m. Classmates are asked to bring a covered dish. Memory Loss Support Group A memory loss support group meets the third Tuesday monthly, at 6 p.m., in the Pearl Room at Fulton County Medical Center. Please use the south entrance. For more information call 717-485-6108.

Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month from 10:30 a.m. to noon. When the third Monday is a holiday, the class is held the fourth Monday. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.
