Meals Available Once a month volunteers pack up boxes of food to be given to anyone in need in the Waterfall area. Book Sale More than 60,000 new and used books of all types plus CDs, DVDs, audio books, puzzles, board games and artwork will be offered for sale at the 34th annual Friends of Legal Services book sale at Laird Hall on the Wilson College campus in Chambersburg May 18 and 19. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, May 18; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 19; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 20.

Summer Internships Fulton County Employment and Training Inc. of Fulton County has a great opportunity for Fulton County residents ages 18-24 and attending college. They are offering students a paid summer internship; eight weeks at $10.15 per hour for up to 37.5 hours per week. Spotted Lanternfly Seminar Penn State Extension Master Gardeners will hold a spotted lanternfly seminar Tuesday, April 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Fulton County Library. Cost is a no-fee program presented by Master Gardener David Henry. Will spotted lanternfy devastate trees as badly as the gypsy moth and the emerald ash borer? Come and learn about the next invasive insect that is coming our way.

GSR Sponsorship The 2018 sponsorship program managed by the Grease Steam and Rust Association to fund the 2018 Fulton Fall Folk Festival October 19-21 and parade on October 20 is now open. GSR is asking for financial support to keep this event operating. Bulky Items Day Ayr and Todd townships and Mc- Connellsburg Borough will hold spring bulky items Friday, April 27, and Saturday, April 28. McConnellsburg Borough will be curbside with pickup Friday, April 27. Items should be placed curbside Thursday evening, April 26. Scouts Accepting Members Troop 43, chartered by the United Presbyterian Church of McConnellsburg, is accepting boys age 11-17. Pumpkin Contest McConnellsburg Motor & Implement is sponsoring a pumpkin growing contest during Fulton Fall Folk Festival. The Grease, Steam & Rust Association will be working with them to coordinate this program. To participate seeds must come from the sponsors and are available as of February 9, 2018. Blueberry Sale Fulton County 4-H Clubs are taking orders for 10-lb. boxes of large, clean blueberries for $29. Delivery is Friday, June 29. Contact a 4-H’er or call 717-325-4871 to place an order. Last day to place orders is June 6.


Gun Bash Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a spring gun bash Saturday, April 21, at the firehall. Tickets are $10 and include one meal per ticket. Total of 10 prizes of guns and cash.

SF Art Festival The annual Southern Fulton School District student art festival will be held Sunday, April 29. It will take place at the elementary school on Great Cove Road, Warfordsburg.

Open Mic Night Hancock Open Mic will be held Friday, April 20, at Hancock Performing Arts Center on High Street in Hancock. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Wrestling High Voltage Wrestling and House of Pain will present a benefit for Fulton County Special Olympics Saturday, April 21. Meet and greet at 6 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m., with bell time at 7 p.m. Front row seats are $15 and general admission is $10. Meet and greet is $5; kids under 12 are $5. Softball Registration BiValley girls softball will hold registration for girls in grades K-9 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, April 20, at the alumni building. Cost is $35. Strawberry Festival Fulton County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism will hold a strawberry festival June 8, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and June 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the courthouse lawn and West Market Street, McConnellsburg. Available will be strawberry shortcake, pies, waffles and other treats along with vendors and children’s activities. Friday night will be country music recording artist Glen Shelton from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday will be the Shooting Stars majorette group at 11 a.m. and Mercersburg Community Band will perform at noon.

Gun Bash Hancock Fire Co. will hold a spring gun bash Saturday, May 19, at the fire and rescue property on Sensel Road. Cost is $20 per ticket. Gates open at 11 a.m. Buffet served at 11:30 a.m. to ticketholders and a guest. Only 500 tickets sold. Tickets available from any fireman or contact 301- 678-7739.

Special Music The Country Blend Band will be appearing Saturday, April 21, at Broad Top Senior Center. Doors and kitchen open at 5 p.m. Music from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Donation is $3.

Bike Ride Team No One Fights Alone will hold a bike ride Saturday, June 9, at Harpers Memorial Park, Shade Gap. Registration is from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and kick stands up at noon. Food will be provided after the ride. Cost is $20 per bike and $10 for passenger. Cars are welcome to participate at $20 per car. Post 518 will hold a dance with “SOS” from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Madden Winnick Post 518, Orbisonia. If not riding but want to attend and enjoy the entertainment at the post after the ride, a donation of $10 is appreciated. Free Walking There will be free walking in the alumni community building every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. If the Central Fulton School District is closed due to the weather the gym will not be open.

New York City Trip Modern Woodmen of America, Camp 7848, is sponsoring an on-your-own trip to New York City June 9. Price is $50 per person which includes a buffet breakfast. Pickup at McConnellsburg courthouse at 6 a.m. Estimated arrival in New York is 11:15 a.m. near Macy’s. Leave New York at 6:15 p.m., near Times Square. Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month from 10:30 a.m. to noon. When the third Monday is a holiday, the class is held the fourth Monday. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Monday morning at 11 a.m. (even holidays), at Fulton County Medical Center Community Health and Wellness building located at 294 Lincoln Way West and every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the basement of McConnellsburg alumni building, 301 East Maple Street. Both are open meetings and anyone can attend.

Narcotics Anonymous Meets two times per week in Mc- Connellsburg. NA is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. Members share their successes and challenges in overcoming active addiction and living drug-free, productive lives through the application of the principles contained within the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of NA (patterned after Alcoholics Anonymous.) Anyone is welcome no matter what is used or how big the desire to stop using is. MHS Reunion McConnellsburg High School Class of 1968 will hold its 50th reunion at the Orchards Restaurant in Chambersburg June 23. Letters will be sent out in two weeks.

Meet The Candidates Breakfast Meet the Candidates pancake breakfast will be held at McConnellsburg VFW, Saturday April 21, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Meet Brent Ottaway, candidate for Congress; Emily Best, candidate for state Senate; and Deb Baughman, candidate for state House. Grist Mill pancakes, Younker’s sausage, and more. All are welcome. Donations appreciated.

Democratic Dinner Fulton County Democratic dinner will be held Saturday, May 5, at 6:30 p.m., at McConnellsburg Firehall. Tickets are $15 for adults; children $7.50 and under 6 are free. Tickets available at the door.

Spring Festival Cito United Methodist Church will hold a festival Saturday, April 28, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Cito Fellowship Hall, 3746 Cito Road, McConnellsburg. Served will be homemade ice cream, soups and sandwiches.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.


Quilt Club Meeting Fulton County Quilt Club will meet Saturday, April 21, at 9 a.m., in the community room of Fulton County Library, North First Street, McConnellsburg. This month will be learning how to make eight half square triangles at once and then use the half square triangles to make the block of the month, Pigs In A Blanket. Fabric requirements: two 8-inch squares of background fabric and two 8- inch squares of medium or dark fabric. Also bring sewing machine, sewing kit, rotary cutter, mat and square-up ruler. Anyone interested in quilting is invited to attend.

Cemetery Meeting Ebenezer Cemetery Association, Sipes Mill, Pa., will hold its yearly cemetery meeting at the church May 14, at 7 p.m. All are welcome.

State Forest Meeting Friends Group of Buchanan State Forest Sideling/Martin Hill Tracts will meet the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m., except holidays and inclement weather, at West Providence Municipal Building, 81 East Fifth Street, Everett, the second floor in the middle room. PTA Fundraiser Bingo Southern Fulton PTA will hold a fundraiser bingo Sunday, April 22. Doors open at noon and games begin at 2 p.m., at McConnellsburg Firehall. Concessions will be available. Raffles, silent auction, extra games, specials and small games of chance will be available for purchase. Donation is $25 per person for 20 games, with one winner per game. Must have ticket to attend.
