Rabies Clinic Better Days Animal League Thrift Store, Fort Loudon, across from Milky Way Restaurant, will hold a rabies, distemper and microchip clinic June 2 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is cash only. Meals Available Once a month volunteers pack up boxes of food to be given to anyone in need in the Waterfall area. Book Sale More than 60,000 new and used books of all types plus CDs, DVDs, audio books, puzzles, board games and artwork will be offered for sale at the 34th annual Friends of Legal Services book sale at Laird Hall on the Wilson College campus in Chambersburg May 18 and 19. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, May 18; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 19; and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 20.

Bulky Items Day Ayr and Todd townships and Mc- Connellsburg Borough will hold spring bulky items Friday, April 27, and Saturday, April 28. McConnellsburg Borough will be curbside with pickup Friday, April 27. Items should be placed curbside Thursday evening, April 26. A detailed listing will appear in the “News” with times and what is and isn’t acceptable.

Pajama Collection PA Office of Victim Advocate is collecting new pajamas to be distributed for children and youth agencies across the commonwealth as part of Child Abuse Awareness Month in April. All donations will be sent to OVA for distribution to PA Children and Youth agencies to be given out to children upon entering into foster care placement. Donations are being accepted at Fulton County Services for Children, 219 North Second Street, McConnellsburg. Pajamas to be accepted are from infant to adolescent size. Donations accepted until April 20.

Co-Ed Flag Football Any third grader thru seniors who would like to play flag football should come to the first practice Tuesday, April 17, at 6 p.m., at the alumni community building in McConnellsburg. This will be registration in the gym, learning the rules and playing. Depending on the number who register will depend on how many different divisions and length of season. Scouts Accepting Members Troop 43, chartered by the United Presbyterian Church of McConnellsburg, is accepting boys age 11-17. Pumpkin Contest McConnellsburg Motor & Implement is sponsoring a pumpkin growing contest during Fulton Fall Folk Festival. The Grease, Steam & Rust Association will be working with them to coordinate this program. To participate seeds must come from the sponsors and are available as of February 9, 2018. Blueberry Sale Fulton County 4-H Clubs are taking orders for 10-lb. boxes of large, clean blueberries for $29. Delivery is Friday, June 29. Contact a 4-H’er or call 717-325-4871 to place an order. Last day to place orders is June 6.

RECREATION

Gun Bash Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a spring gun bash Saturday, April 21, at the firehall. Tickets are $10 and include one meal per ticket. Total of 10 prizes of guns and cash.

Mic Night Mic Night will be held at Warfordsburg Senior Center April 14, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., weather permitting. Kitchen opens at 4 p.m. Food and drink will be available. Monetary donations are appreciated. Everyone is welcome. For more information call 717-294-6020.

Flounder Tournament The sixth annual flounder tournament will be held May 17, 18 and 19. Applications may be picked up at Peckies Body Shop or by calling 301-910-3577.

Christmas Child Celebration All are welcome to attend the Christmas Child celebration banquet at Calvary Independent Baptist Church in McConnellsburg April 14 at 5:30 p.m. Please bring a covered dish to share. Karen Diehl, area coordinator for Operation Christmas Child for Bedford/Fulton area, will share inspiring stories of her hand-delivering shoebox gifts to children in Rwanda, Africa. Wrestling High Voltage Wrestling and House of Pain will present a benefit for Fulton County Special Olympics Saturday, April 21. Meet and greet at 6 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m., with bell time at 7 p.m. Front row seats are $15 and general admission is $10. Meet and greet is $5; kids under 12 are $5. Softball Registration BiValley girls softball will hold registration for girls in grades K-9 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, April 20, at the alumni building. Cost is $35. Strawberry Festival Fulton County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism will hold a strawberry festival June 8, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and June 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the courthouse lawn and West Market Street, McConnellsburg. Available will be strawberry shortcake, pies, waffles and other treats along with vendors and children’s activities. Friday night will be country music recording artist Glen Shelton from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday will be the Shooting Stars majorette group at 11 a.m. and Mercersburg Community Band will perform at noon.

Work Day Date Change The work day for the Friends of Buchanan State Forest Buchanan SF Sideling/Martin Hill tracts has been changed to April 14, at 9 a.m., due to the weather forecast and wet trails. Meet at the tower behind the picnic area, across from Sideling Hill maintenance shed. Bring water, snacks/lunch, pruners, gloves and wear safety shoes and clothing. All volunteers are welcome to work on the beautiful trails.

Gun Bash Hancock Fire Co. will hold a spring gun bash Saturday, May 19, at the fire and rescue property on Sensel Road. Cost is $20 per ticket. Bike Ride Team No One Fights Alone will hold a bike ride Saturday, June 9, at Harpers Memorial Park, Shade Gap. Registration is from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and kick stands up at noon. Food will be provided after the ride. Cost is $20 per bike and $10 for passenger. Cars are welcome to participate at $20 per car. Post 518 will hold a dance with “SOS” from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Madden Winnick Post 518, Orbisonia. If not riding but want to attend and enjoy the entertainment at the post after the ride, a donation of $10 is appreciated. Free Walking There will be free walking in the alumni community building every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. If the Central Fulton School District is closed due to the weather the gym will not be open.

New York City Trip Modern Woodmen of America, Camp 7848, is sponsoring an on-your-own trip to New York City June 9. Price is $50 per person which includes a buffet breakfast. Pickup at McConnellsburg courthouse at 6 a.m. Estimated arrival in New York is 11:15 a.m. near Macy’s. Leave New York at 6:15 p.m., near Times Square. Save-A-Life Training Save-A-Life training will be held at the Services for Children building, lower level, 219 North Second Street, McConnellsburg, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Anyone wishing to find out more information or to sign up call 717-485-6767, Ext. 222.

Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month from 10:30 a.m. to noon. When the third Monday is a holiday, the class is held the fourth Monday. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Monday morning at 11 a.m. (even holidays), at Fulton County Medical Center Community Health and Wellness building located at 294 Lincoln Way West and every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the basement of McConnellsburg alumni building, 301 East Maple Street. Both are open meetings and anyone can attend.

Narcotics Anonymous Meets two times per week in Mc- Connellsburg. NA is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. Members share their successes and challenges in overcoming active addiction and living drug-free, productive lives through the application of the principles contained within the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of NA (patterned after Alcoholics Anonymous.) Anyone is welcome no matter what is used or how big the desire to stop using is. MHS Reunion McConnellsburg High School Class of 1968 will hold its 50th reunion at the Orchards Restaurant in Chambersburg June 23. Letters will be sent out in two weeks.

FOOD AND DINING

Hoagie Sale St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will hold its annual hoagie sale Saturday, April 14, at the church schoolhouse at 14660 Great Cove Road, Big Cove Tannery. Lunch will start at 9 a.m., along with hoagies there will also be homemade soups and pies.

Free Lunch Lunch will be served every first Friday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at McConnellsburg United Methodist Faith and Life Center, across from the courthouse. Parking available behind the church. Soup, sandwiches, salad bar, potato bar and dessert bar are served. Dine-in or carryouts with donations accepted.

Meet The Candidates Breakfast Meet the Candidates pancake breakfast will be held at McConnellsburg VFW, Saturday April 21, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Meet Brent Ottaway, candidate for Congress; Emily Best, candidate for state Senate; and Deb Baughman, candidate for state House. Grist Mill pancakes, Younker’s sausage, and more. All are welcome. Donations appreciated.

Spring Tea The annual Historical Society Spring Tea will be held in the new museum annex banquet room April 14, at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $10 per adult and $4.50 for those under 12 years. Democratic Dinner Fulton County Democratic dinner will be held Saturday, May 5, at 6:30 p.m., at McConnellsburg Firehall. Tickets are $15 for adults; children $7.50 and under 6 are free. Tickets available at the door.

Spring Festival Cito United Methodist Church will hold a festival Saturday, April 28, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Cito Fellowship Hall, 3746 Cito Road, McConnellsburg. Served will be homemade ice cream, soups and sandwiches.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

State Forest Meeting Friends Group of Buchanan State Forest Sideling/Martin Hill Tracts will meet the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m., except holidays and inclement weather, at West Providence Municipal Building, 81 East Fifth Street, Everett, the second floor in the middle room. Sportsmen’s Meeting Fulton County Sportsmen’s League will meet at 7 p.m. in the stone house at the trout nursery April 13. The meeting is being held one week earlier this month in order to plan for the opening day of trout season and first day of trout season fundraiser. Plans for the stocking and opening day trout fishing fundraiser will be discussed. Plans for the spring open house and children’s rodeo on May 20 and trout stocking will be discussed. Looking for someone to assist making bean soup and chicken corn soup for the children’s rodeo on May 20. If interest in volunteering attend the April meeting or contact a board member.

BINGO

PTA Fundraiser Bingo Southern Fulton PTA will hold a fundraiser bingo Sunday, April 22. Doors open at noon and games begin at 2 p.m., at McConnellsburg Firehall. Concessions will be available. Raffles, silent auction, extra games, specials and small games of chance will be available for purchase. Donation is $25 per person for 20 games, with one winner per game. Must have ticket to attend. Seating is limited. Contact Deanne Baker at 717- 372-6365. Prizes include many getaway packages, restaurant gift cards, tickets to sporting events, etc.

Church Dedication Rehoboth New Life will celebrate the dedication of its new campus Saturday, April 14, at 7 p.m. All are welcome to celebrate.
