Dennis J. Nice, 69, Mc- Connellsburg, died Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania.

He was born March 7, 1948, in Philadelphia and raised in the Somerton section, the son of the late Freda and the late Joseph Nice.

He graduated from Father Judge High School and attended Temple University for a short period before enlisting in the United States Air Force. During his eight years of service, he was trained as an air traffic controller that led to his long and successful career with the FAA. During his work experience, he was a supervisor at Philadelphia International Airport, an air traffic control instructor in Oklahoma City and a tower manager in Bethel, Alaska. For a brief period, he was also an accident investigator for the FAA. His duty posts included Ramstein AFB in Germany, McGuire AFB, Hagerstown, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Oklahoma City, Bethel, Alaska, New York, Seattle and Reading.

He was married to the late Monica M. Nice, who passed away March 4, 2005.

He was a true outdoorsman as he enjoyed camping, boating, hunting and fishing. He was an avid gardener growing an extensive vegetable garden on his beloved 20 acres in McConnellsburg, the place where he retired and spent many happy times with his family. He was a voracious reader, enjoyed cooking and spending time with his beloved boxers.

He is survived by his three children: Kim Schaeffer, Trish Doak (Rich) and Denny (Christine); brothers Paul (Donna) and Kenny (Jane); 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Monica.

There will be a time of visitation Saturday, March 10, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home in McConnellsburg, with interment at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 10, at the Nice Family Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.kelso-corneliusfuneralhome.com
