FFA State Officers Visit Forbes

SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

On November 20, 2017, two Pennsylvania FFA state officers visited with Forbes Road FFA members. The two PA FFA state officers were reporter Philip Winklosky from Derry FFA, and Treasurer Brody Coolidge from Grand Canyon FFA. They facilitated workshops with Forbes Road members about team building, communication, and problem solving. The students had a blast interacting with the state officers and learning about their communication strategy of the SNAPS Game.

The PA FFA mid-winter convention was held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Monday, January 8. First-year FFA members had the opportunity to fill out an application to participate in the freshman jacket campaign. Forbes Road FFA had three first-year members win their very own FFA jacket from this campaign. Students were awarded their jackets during the convention. Even though Forbes Road students were unable to attend because of the weather, Kiersten Baker was already at the Farm Show exhibiting her beef cows and was able to attend and receive her jacket. The other two members who received their FFA jackets were Asher Shaffer and Zack Henry.

In February five members from Forbes Road FFA had the opportunity to attend the PA FFA ACES Conference. The ACES conference teaches the FFA members about how cooperation among people who work in agriculture contributes to success in the industry. The students participated in five workshops that taught them about agricultural literacy, respecting diversity in the industry, financial skills, and opportunities within the FFA and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau to promote agriculture. The students also gained invaluable social skills, leadership skills and teamwork. Students who attended were Zoe Cutchall, Samantha Henry, Brianna Waters, Payton Watkins, and Hunter Kerlin.
