Elks HOOP Shoot Chambersburg Elks Lodge 600 will host its annual hoop shoot in the alumni community building in McConnellsburg January 13, 2018, starting at 4 p.m. This contest is open to any child ages 8 thru 13. Santa At Legion Santa Claus will be at the American Legion December 16, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Preregister at the legion or call 485-5957 by December 14.

FOOD AND DINING

Free Lunch Lunch will be served every first Friday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at McConnellsburg United Methodist Faith and Life Center, across from the courthouse. Parking available behind the church. Soup, sandwiches, salad bar, potato bar and dessert bar is served. Dine-in or carryout with donations accepted.

Spaghetti Dinner A spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held Friday, December 15, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Rehoboth New Life Church, 8159 Great Cove Road, Needmore. Proceeds benefit India mission trip.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

NAR-ANON Meeting The Nar-Anon Family Group is primarily for those who know or have known a feeling of desperation concerning the addiction problem of someone very near to you. We have travelled that unhappy road too, and found the answer with serenity and peace of mind. When you come into the family group you are no longer alone, but among true friends who understand your problem as few others could. Meetings have been moved from Thursday at 7 p.m. to Saturday at 7 p.m., at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 228 North Second Street, McConnellsburg. Autism Support Group Autism support group meets the last Tuesday of the month quarterly at 6 p.m. Call Lauren Everetts 717-485-6107 for details.

Alzheimer’s Support Group Do you have questions about caring for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer’s? Visit the support group the third Tuesday of each month, at 6 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center in the Pearl Room. Light supper is provided. Meetings are free. There is a speaker each month focusing on different subjects dealing with this illness. As we travel this journey together there is help here, with daily, weekly and monthly challenges for all stages.

Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month from 10:30 a.m. to noon. When the third Monday is a holiday, the class is held the fourth Monday. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

Blood Drive McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church will hold a Red Cross blood drive December 6, from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., in the fellowship hall. The church is on the corner of Maple Street and Second Street. Call 1-800-733-2767 or at redcrossblood.org and enter MUPC to make an appointment.

Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Monday morning at 11 a.m. (even holidays) in the Pearl Room, second floor of Fulton County Medical Center, and every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the basement of Mc- Connellsburg Alumni Building, located at 301 East Maple Street. Both are open meetings that anyone can attend.

Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center cardiopulmonary rehab gym. The cost is based on insurance. Call 717-485-6149 to see if insurance provider is accepted. Community Wellness is $40/month/person or $70/month/couple.

Narcotics Anonymous Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meets three times per week in McConnellsburg. NA is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. Membership is open to all drug addicts, regardless of the particular drug or combination of drugs used including alcohol. Members share their successes and challenges in overcoming active addiction and living drug-free, productive lives through the application of the principles contained within the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of NA. Anyone is welcome no matter what was used or how big the desire to stop using is. Meetings are held Sunday and Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Fulton County Medical Center (follow the signs at the main entrance to the Pearl Room) and Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 228 North Second Street, McConnellsburg. Food Giveaway A community food giveaway will be held Saturday, December 16, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., or while supplies last, at Rehobeth New Life, the old sanctuary building (former bank building), 8264 Great Cove Road, Needmore. No income eligibility. All are welcome.

Scouts Accepting Members Troop 43, chartered by the United Presbyterian Church of McConnellsburg, is accepting boys age 11-17. Parenting Power Hour A Parenting Power Hour of learning exploring and relaxing together is held every Monday from 11 a.m. to noon at Fulton County Family Partnership, 22438 Great Cove Road (use COPE entrance). Veterans Service Office Winter Hours Instead of Wednesdays, the Fulton County Veterans Service Office will now be open Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This change will be effective beginning December 1, 2017, through March 30, 2018.

Preschool Story Hour Preschool story hour is held weekly through the school year at 10:30 a.m. Hustontown Branch Library hosts on Tuesdays; McConnellsburg library, Wednesdays; and southern Fulton County at Dott Store, Thursdays. Meals Available Once a month volunteers pack up boxes of food to be given to anyone in need in the Waterfall area. PARSE Meetings PARSE Chapter 127 retired state employees will meet on the second Wednesday of each month at the McConnellsburg VFW at 10 a.m. Your attendance is important to our chapter.

Sportsmen’s League Meeting Fulton County Sportsmen’s League will meet at 7 p.m. in the stone house at the trout nursery December 15. Officers and board members for 2018 will be nominated and elected.

CHRISTMAS SERVICES

Symbols Of Christmas “Symbols of Christmas” will be presented by Warfordsburg Presbyterian children’s Sunday School classes December 17 at 7 p.m. The pubic is encouraged to attend and learn the meaning of the common practices of the Christmas season.

Christmas Celebration Akersville Christmas celebration will be held Saturday, December 16, beginning at 7 p.m., at Akersville Church in Crystal Spring. There will be specials by local talents. Refreshments will be served following the program. All are welcome.

Christmas Eve Service Wells Valley Presbyterian Church will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service December 24 at 7 p.m. All are welcome to join in for an intimate and meaningful worship experience.

Christmas Program A Christmas program will be held at Freedom Worship Center Sunday, December 17, at 6 p.m. Children’s skits and the cantata “The Life Of Jesus” will be presented. All are welcome.
