Disorderly Conduct

An argument occured on Nov. 7 at 6:45 p.m. inside the McConnellsburg Elementary School. According to state police, John Edward Vanleeuwen, 38, McConnellsburg, was engaged in an argument with a basketball coach. After investigation it was found that Vanleeuwen exited the gym yelling explicit language. As a result, disorderly conduct charges have been filed against the accused.

Car Crash

A crash occured on Nov. 13 at 8:28 a.m. involving one car. According to state police, the driver, Alanna Fletcher, 38, Warfordsburg, was traveling north on Great Cove Rd. just north of Timber Ridge Rd. when she failed to negotitate a right hand curve due to a wet roadway. The driver went off road and rolled her 1998 Chevrolet Montel Carlo. No other information has been given.

Fatal Car Crash

A man from St. Thomas lost his life in a freak accident involving another vehicle and a deer.

According to state police, Drema Purnell, 58, Wells Tannery, was traveling west on Lincoln Highway through Scrub Ridge on Nov. 8 at 5:40 p.m. when a deer suddenly ran onto the road. Because of the speed and angle in which the deer was struck, the 2011 Hyundai Sonata sent the animal airborne and it flew into the windshield of 43-year-old Robert Becker’s 2012 Ford F350 that was traveling in the opposite direction. The animal shattered the windshield and entered the passenger compartment. Once impact was made, the car swerved and went off the roadway, traveling into the woods roughly 230 feet before coming to a final result. As a result, Becker lost his life.

McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co. and Fulton County Coroner assisted state police at the scene; Remsburg Towing removed Becker’s car.

Car Crash

John Truax, 77, McConnellsburg, was traveling with Timothy Truax, 53, Needmore, on Nov. 6 at 1:20 p.m. when they ran the red light located at the intersection of Third Street and Lincoln Highway. According to state police, Truax’s 2005 Dodge Dakota ran through the red light and collided with the passenger side of a 2013 Buick Encore belonging to Janet Geyer, 79, Mc- Connellsburg.

The Dodge Dakota sustained major damage to the front end while the Buick Encore only received minor damage to the passenger side. No injuries were reported. Scott’s Auto Body assisted at the scene.


A Needmore resident was cited for harassment. According to state police, a 16- year-old unidentified female repeatedly punched a 15- year-old unidentified male in the face, causing a bruise. The incident occurred at 8890 Thompson Road, Needmore on Nov. 3 at 9 p.m.

One-Car Crash

An accident occurred on Peach Orchard Road Thursday night. According to state police,an unidentified man was traveling south on Nov. 9 at 7:44 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and fishtailed violently, causing his 1998 Mazda B Series to swerve off the road and into a culvert, where his front left tire blew from impact. The driver was able to drive away from the scene after fixing the tire and reported no bodily injuries.


A 33-year- old McConnellsburg woman reported a theft last Sunday on November 5 between 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. According to state police, a homeless person was staying at the resident’s property stole unsecured belongings from the residence before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction.


A 78-year- old McConnellsburg man was a victim of a telephone scam, resulting in a $4,000 theft. According to state police, the incident occurred on October 23 at 10 a.m. in Todd Township.
