MHS Denied District Volleyball Title

Berlin 3 McConnellsburg 0

The Lady Spartans brought home silver medals following District 5 Championship play last Thursday against Berlin, 0-3 – 19-25, 13-25, 11-25. Kacey Hann led the Lady Spartans with 8 kills, 4 digs and 1 block. Katelyn Truax had 6 kills, 7 digs, and 3 blocks. Marie Fuller added 5 kills and 5 digs. Aryanna Lupey contributed another 4 kills and 7 digs. Tara Cutshaw had 3 service aces and 10 assists. Lexi Lupey had 9 assists.

Meyersdale 0

The McConnellsburg Lady Spartans won in the semifinals of the District 5 girls volleyball playoffs against Meyersdale, 3-0 – 25- 23, 25-10, 25-20 last Tuesday. Katelyn Truax led the Lady Spartans with 11 kills, 7 digs, 4 blocks and 2 aces. Marie Fuller had another strong serving night with 20 service points, 3 aces and 10 kills. Kacey Hann put up 8 kills, 6 digs, 2 blocks and 1 ace. Tara Cutshaw racked up 14 assists, 4 kills, 6 digs and 1 block. Aryanna Lupey contributed 4 kills and 5 digs. Lexi Lupey rounded out the evening with 18 assists, 4 kills and 4 digs.

Lady Spartans Lose District Title To Windber

Windber 1 McConnellsburg 0

The Lady Spartans’ soccer season came to an end last Tuesday night as they lost to Windber in the District 5 Championship game. With both teams not able to score in regulation or overtime, the game went into a penalty kick shootout. Kellyn Perry made several saves in the shootout to keep the Spartans alive, but ultimately they came up just short.

Last Tuesday night’s District 5 boys soccer semifinal saw #6 Fannett-Metal upset #2 McConnellsburg in dramatic fashion. The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first half, with the second Tiger goal scored off a Spartan defender. McConnellsburg battled back in the second half on goals by Landon Seiders and Brady Daniels. Then, Fannett-Metal found the back of the net for the win with nine seconds left in the game.
