Marvin L. DeShong

Hustontown, 79

Marvin LeRoy DeShong, 79, Hustontown, died at 11:15 a.m., Thursday, November 2, 2017, at the VA Community Assisted Living Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born April 3, 1938, in Todd Township, Fulton County, he was the son of the late George Preston and Goldie Mae (Carbaugh) DeShong.

He was united in marriage to Elner DeShong on June 4, 1954. She survives at home.

He is survived by a daughter and two sons: Delilah Redenius and husband Steve, Hustontown; Dan DeShong and wife Brenda, Shippensburg; and Darius DeShong, Hustontown; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Donald DeShong and Harold DeShong, both of Mc- Connellsburg.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Blaine DeShong; a sister, Lois Jean Hess-Velasquez, and a grandson, Jonathan Redenius.

During his lifetime, he served 40 years in the Air Force National Guard with 28 years as an airfield management supervisor, served as captain of the Fulton County Honor Guard, and was a lifetime member and former president of the Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. where he also served as ambulance chief.

He had also worked at the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Penn-DOT and at JLG Industries, McConnellsburg.

He loved to sing and was a member of Dublin Mills Community Church, Hustontown.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, November 6, at Dublin Mills Community Church, Hustontown. Pastor Jay Lobach officiated. Interment was at Dublin Mills Community Church Cemetery.

M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, was in charge of arrangements.

Fulton Honor Guard provided military honors at the cemetery.
