Senior Center Social Night Warfordsburg Senior Center will host a social night Saturday, August 26. Seniors 60 and older are welcome to enjoy an evening of DJ music. Bring a covered dish; meat is furnished by the club. Meal is at 5 p.m. Music will start shortly after. For more information call 717- 294-6020.

Open Mic Open Mic will be held in Hancock at the community center on High Street Friday, September 18. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Open to all ages and all genres of music. Hosts are Jeanne Ward and Mike Kligerman.

Cruisin Over Cancer Come plant a flower flag in the Crusin Over Cancer garden in honor or memory of those affected by cancer. This event will be a part of the Cruise-In For A Cause held September 16, at Thomas All Things Automotive, 21518 Great Cove Road, McConnellsburg, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Let’s weed out cancer.

Senior Citizen Day At Fair Senior citizen day at the Fulton County Fair will be Thursday, August 17, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Free admission, free bingo with prizes, free entertainment and free refreshments. Sponsored by Tri-State Community Health Center, Fulton County Medical Center, F&M Trust, Community State Bank, BB&T Bank, Sue Fleming, Waring, McConnellsburg Fire Co. and McConnellsburg Alumni Association.

Cruise-In For A Cause A cruise-in will be held September 16, rain or shine, at Thomas All Things Automotive, 21518 Great Cove Road, McConnellsburg, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. This event is being held to benefit Terri J. Guyer and Susan Saylor Hann who are battling cancer. A $10 donation is being accepted per registered vehicle with all donations going directly to Terri and Susan. Food will be available for purchase by Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. Bake sale items will also be available. Any year of cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome to help Terri and Susan. Dance Broad Top Senior Center will hold a Saturday night dance August 19, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $3 per person and the kitchen opens at 5:30 p.m. with hot food.

MHS Class of '79 Trip Plans are being made for Mc- Connellsburg High School Class of 1979 to take a bus trip to visit classmate Patti Johnson Landes at her new restaurant, The Cracked Pillar, in Bridgewater, Va., Sat., November 4, for a surprise visit. Peach Festival The seventh annual Peach Festival will be held Saturday, August 19, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the community grounds in Fort Loudon. Visitors can enjoy peach pie, peach cobbler, peach sundaes, peach cream puffs, sandwiches, french fries, funnel cakes, kettle corn, cotton candy, snowcones, and soft drinks. A chicken barbecue will be available at 11 a.m. until sold out. Entertainment for all ages with gospel music with Dave Powers from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; and The Shippensburg Swing Band from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. A reptile show will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; puppet show 11 a.m. to noon; magic show with balloon twisting noon to 2 p.m.; and build-a-bear, barrel train rides, face painting and moon bounce all day. More than 70 craft and home-based businesses vendors will be set up on the community center grounds and a special Lula Roe pop-up event will be held in the community center building. At 1 p.m., auctioneer Jeannie Pepple will be auctioning more than 40 items including many items donated by the vendors. Bring lawn chairs and enjoy a relaxing day in the country. Parking and admission are free. Held rain or shine. The community grounds are located at the corner of Hawbaker Drive and Rte. 30. Proceeds benefit Trinity United Church of Christ in Fort Loudon.

Yard Sale A yard sale will be held at Warfordsburg Senior Center August 23 and 24 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Inside/outside spaces available: $10 per table inside or $5 for outside space with your own table. Setup is Tuesday, August 22, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and takedown Thursday, August 24, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more information call 717-294-6020.

Sprint Cup Race Bus Trip A NASCAR Sprint Cup race bus trip to Richmond International Speedway will be held September 9 and 10. PASAR Picnic The Fulton County PASR “I’m Not Going Back To School Picnic” will be held Wednesday, August 23, at McConnellsburg Lions Club Park pavilion at 11 a.m. All retired school personnel are welcome. Call other school retirees and invite them to attend. Bring items for the auction to benefit the scholarship and grant funds. Bring food to share for the noon meal. Come visit with friends and enjoy the fun. Monetary donations to the Fulton County Food Basket are always welcomed.

Festival Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church will hold a festival Saturday, August 19, at 5 p.m. Served will be country ham sandwiches, steamers, chili dogs, homemade soups, ice cream and games. Also available are games, dunk tank and bluegrass gospel band Guilford Station. Church is located on MD Rte. 144, 5 1/2 miles west of Hancock; turn south (left) on Western Pike and follow signs 1 1/2 miles to Mt. Olivet.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

Legion Picnic American Legion Post 561 will hold its annual picnic Sunday, August 20. Tickets are now on sale at the legion home.

Ice Cream Festival An ice cream festival will be held August 26 at Center United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. Served will be ham dinners with mashed potatoes, filling, green beans or corn, coleslaw or applesauce, along with sandwiches, soup, pie, cake and ice cream.

Ice Cream Festival Fairview United Methodist Church will hold a ice cream festival September 9. The church is located four miles north of Hustontown on North Hess Road. Homemade ice cream, soups, sandwiches, french fries and desserts will be for sale. Festival begins at 4 p.m. All are welcome.

HEALTH

Exercise Classes The following classes are available at the alumni community building: Yoga – Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Zumba – Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Tai Chi – Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Pilates – Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Also come to the gym Monday, Wednesday and Fridays and walk inside, out of the weather, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. free. Alzheimer’s Support Group Do you have questions about caring for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer’s? Visit the support group the third Tuesday of each month, at 6 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center in the Pearl Room. Light supper is provided. Meetings are free. There is a speaker each month focusing on different subjects dealing with this illness. As we travel this journey together there is help here, with daily, weekly and monthly challenges for all stages.

Lymes Disease Presentation There will be a presentation by FCMC on lymes disease at 4 p.m. at the Fulton County Fair on Saturday, August 19. Hear the latest information on what you can do to protect yourself. The presentation will be in the new pavilion beside the red building.

Autism Support Group Autism support group meets the last Tuesday of the month quarterly at 6 p.m. Call Lauren Everetts 717-485-6107 for details.

Yoga Classes Reaching Wellness yoga classes will be held for all ages Tuesdays at 5 p.m., at the Fulton County Medical Center. Call for cost and to register at 717-860-5690.

Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month from 10:30 a.m. to noon. When the third Monday is a holiday, the class is held the fourth Monday. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

NAR-ANON Meeting The Nar-Anon Family Group is primarily for those who know or have known a feeling of desperation concerning the addiction problem of someone very near to you. We have travelled that unhappy road too, and found the answer with serenity and peace of mind. When you come into the family group you are no longer alone, but among true friends who understand your problem as few others could. Meetings have been moved from Thursday at 7 p.m. to Saturday at 7 p.m., at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 228 North Second Street, McConnellsburg. Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Monday morning at 11 a.m. (even holidays) in the Pearl Room, second floor of Fulton County Medical Center, and every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the basement of Mc- Connellsburg Alumni Building, located at 301 East Maple Street. Both are open meetings that anyone can attend.

Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center cardiopulmonary rehab gym. The cost is based on insurance. Call 717-485-6149 to see if insurance provider is accepted. Community Wellness is $40/month/person or $70/month/couple.

Narcotics Anonymous Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meets three times per week in McConnellsburg. NA is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. Membership is open to all drug addicts, regardless of the particular drug or combination of drugs used including alcohol. Members share their successes and challenges in overcoming active addiction and living drug-free, productive lives through the application of the principles contained within the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of NA. Anyone is welcome no matter what was used or how big the desire to stop using is. Meetings are held Sunday and Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Fulton County Medical Center (follow the signs at the main entrance to the Pearl Room) and Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 228 North Second Street, McConnellsburg. Behavior Training Pennsylvania Behavioral Health and Aging Coalition will hold training on “Managing Challenging Behaviors” August 29, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Fulton County Library, 227 North First Street, McConnellsburg. Register at www.olderpa.org. Training will address the challenging behaviors that are present when working with the public, whether specific populations or in general.

Meals Available Once a month volunteers pack up boxes of food to be given to anyone in need in the Waterfall area. Victory Garden Program Are invited to the Penn State Master Gardeners of Fulton County Victory Garden, located behind the McConnellsburg Firehall on Second Street September 21, at 9 a.m. and on the property of the United Presbyterian Church Administrative office. From 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. the gardeners will share what the sixth-year Victory Garden has done and answer any questions about the Penn State Master Gardener program. Anyone who enjoys gardening this is a program to attend. Hunter/Trapper Class A Pennsylvania Game Commission Hunter Trapper Education class will be held Saturday, September 9, at the DCNR forestry building, 5 miles north of McConnellsburg, off Route 522. The class will start at 8 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m. Students must pack a lunch as no lunch is provided. First time hunters or trappers must successfully complete a Hunter Trapper Education class in order to purchase a hunting or trapping license. Students must be at least 11 years old to participate and must register for the class on the Pennsylvania Game Commission Web site. For information only contact John K Johnston at 717-485-5390.

Parenting Power Hour A Parenting Power Hour of learning exploring and relaxing together is held every Monday from 11 a.m. to noon at Fulton County Family Partnership, 22438 Great Cove Road (use COPE entrance). Open to any caregiver interested in improving parent/child relationships, self-awareness and communication with children all while interacting with other parents. Master Gardener Workshop Penn State Master Gardeners of Fulton County invite all to participate in the summer workshops. The following will be held at Penn State Extension Office, 610 East North Street, McConnellsburg. Workshop will be conducted 9 a.m. to noon August 26 – succulents; cost is $20. Confirmation e-mails will be forwarded to attendees with more details prior to workshop. “Gardening to Minimize Ticks and Composting with Works and Regular Composting workshop will be conducted September 9 from 9 a.m. to noon. MEETINGS

P.A.R.S.E. Meeting Cancelled P.A.R.S.E. Chapter 1-27 Fulton County will not meet during the month of August. Meetings will begin again the second Wednesday of September.

Knepper/Shaver Reunion The 58th annual reunion of descendants of Newville Shaver and Charles Knepper will be held Saturday, August 19, at Center Church community building. A covered-dish meal will be at 12:30 p.m., followed by a silent auction.

Stahle Reunion The annual Stahle reunion will be held Sunday, August 20, at Buck Valley Park. Chicken, table service and drinks provided. Bring a covered dish. Meal starts at 12:30 p.m.

Kuhn-Clevenger-Kendle Reunion The Kuhn-Clevenger-Kendle family reunion will be held Sunday, August 27, at the Upton Community Center at 1 p.m. Please bring place settings and drinks for your family and two dishes to share, hot or cold. Don’t forget to bring an item for the auction. Please take note of the new date change.

BINGO

Bingo At Fair Bingo will be held at the Fulton County Fair Thursday, August 17; Friday, August 18 and Saturday, August 19, in the new pavilion at 7 p.m. Three cards for $1 for 50/50 win.

RELIGION

Back-To-School Prayer Night Please plan to attend the back-to-school prayer night Monday, August 21, at Forbes Road High School at 7 p.m., in the high school auditorium. Everyone is welcome to attend. Cover the area schools with a blanket of prayers to begin the new school year. Starting on Tuesday, August 29, from 7:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., will be morning prayer group. This is open to all administrators, faculty, staff, students and community members. They will meet every Tuesday morning school is in session.
