The Post 561 American Legion baseball team completed regular season play on Saturday with a 12-8 win over visiting St Thomas Post 612. The victory pushed the local squad above the .500 mark on the season, checking in at 9-8. The team struggled to a 2-6 early mark before closing with seven wins in the final nine games.

The Franklin County American Legion Baseball League includes teams from Biglerville, Chambersburg, Fayetteville, Greencastle, Mc- Connellsburg, Shippensburg, St Thomas, and Waynesboro. The local squad is comprised of young men ages 19 and under representing all county schools.

Post 561 advances to regional postseason play in the Division 2 Legion baseball tournament, new to Pennsylvania this season. The Division 2 series provides additional postseason opportunities to posts whose teams draw from schools with populations of fewer than 600 students in grades 10-12. The regional tournament will be a best-of-3 weekend series between Middletown Post 594 and Post 561. Games 1 and 2 will be held at Middletown on Saturday. Game 3, if necessary, will be at Mc- Connellsburg High School on Sunday. The winner will advance to the Division 2 state championship at Bloomsburg July 28-30. The championship tournament will include four regional winners in a double-elimination format.

The Post 561 team is sponsored fully by the financial support of the local Fulton Post American Legion in McConnellsburg.
