Man Assaults State Trooper

Preliminary hearing July 17

A McConnellsburg man remains incarcerated in Bedford County Jail on felony charges of aggravated assault and several misdemeanor charges for two incidents that took place on July 3.

Scott Francis Danna, of 399 South Mountain Top Rd., is accused of assaulting a state trooper at 7:30 p.m. while he was in the custody of the Pennsylvania State Police at their barracks on Fulton Drive in McConnellsburg.

The 24-year-old was in police custody for a simple assault that occurred around 3 p.m. at 701 Lincoln Way East. A state police report about this incident identified the victim as a 53-year-old male, who has been reported to be Danna’s father by local print media.

Police have also accused Danna of damaging “commonwealth property” while at their barracks.

Danna faces two felony charges of aggravated assault, a misdemeanor charge for damaging property and another misdemeanor charge for resisting arrest for the incident at the police barracks, according to court records. Bail was set at $100,000.

For the earlier incident on July 3, the court set bail at $25,000 on a misdemeanor charge of simple assault and a summary charge of harassment.

Police also charged Danna with a use/possession of drug paraphernalia misdemeanor after drug-related items were found July 4 in the room he occupies at his South Mountain Top address. Bail for this misdemeanor charge was set at $2,500.

Danna was remanded to Bedford County Jail on July 3 where he awaits a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 17. He has not been able to post bail.
