Every year on March 17, the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across the globe observe St. Patrick’s Day. What began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green. Have a safe and happy St. Patrick’s day to everyone this Friday!

Hustontown Fire Co. will hold a regular shooting March 18 at 1 p.m.

Hustontown Fire Co.’s banquet will be held March 18 at 6 p.m. Reservations to Missy Souders by March 8 at 717-372-7645.

Congratulations to Chad and Nicole Remsburg on the recent birth of a daughter and to local grandparents Bobby and Linda Cutchall.

Forbes Road School District holds morning prayer meetings in the auditorium on Tuesdays from 7:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. All are welcome.

Center and Clear Ridge United Methodist churchs’ combined services will be held March 19, with special ministry from New Life for Girls at 10 a.m. A covered-dish lunch will follow services.

Happy birthday to Jeff Ulsh, March 15; Alexis Doyle and Deb Hershey, March 16; Jen Hoffman, March 17; Curtis Raker, March 20; and Kelly Lucas, March 21.

I am going to share a 40- day Lent challenge with each of you every week. The goal is about loving the person in front of you and serving the wider community to make life better for others.

March 15: Look at joining or setting up a neighborhood watch scheme.

March 16: Spot ways of helping people and do it.

March 17: Go on a thankful walk – see all the positive things you can be thankful for in your neighborhood.

March 18: Share some of your food with someone that doesn’t have as much.

March 19: Take a single person (elderly person, single mom) out for Sunday lunch.

March 20: Consider investing some time volunteering – could you give 24 hours over the next year?

March 21: Share or donate some of your clothing to those less fortunate than you.

The Shaw family of Hustontown gathered Friday evening March 10 at Chambersburg Hoss to surprise Leonard and Linda Shaw and celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

Attendees were: Sarah Shaw, Cory and Janay Shaw, Mindy, Camryn and Devin Horne, Nathan, Stefanie and Lawson Shaw, Chase Shaw, MaryJane Brown and Leverne Brown.

They also celebrated Janay’s birthday which was March 11th.
