MEETINGS

Sportsmen’s Meeting Fulton County Sportsmen’s League will meet at 7 p.m. in the stone house at the trout nursery March 17. Details for the annual trout stocking and fundraiser on the first day of trout season, April 15, will be discussed. Plans for the children’s fish rodeo and open house will also be discussed. Anyone helping with any of the events please attend the March and April meetings. Meetings are held the third Friday of the month at 7 p.m.

Quilt Club Meeting Fulton County Quilt Club will meet Saturday, March 18, at 10 a.m., in the community room of Fulton County Library, North First Street, McConnellsburg. This year the classes will focus on learning different piecing techniques. This month’s class will be constructing a block with partial seams. Supplies needed are sewing machine and sewing kit. Fabrics needed: one 4 1/2” square, eight 2 1/2”x 6 1/2” strips and four 2 1/2” x 4 1/2” strips. Fabric should be five coordinating fabrics or various scrap fabrics. This will make a 12 1/2” block. Anyone interested in quilting is invited to attend.

Friends Of Meadow Grounds Meeting Friends of Meadow Grounds Lake meets the fourth Monday of each month at Community State Bank, 415 Fulton Drive, McConnellsburg, at 6 p.m.

Legion Meeting American Legion Post 561 active members regular meeting is the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. Auxiliary members meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. SAL meeting is the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. Members of the organizations are urged to attend.

RECREATION

Dinner Auction Fulton County Historical Society will host its annual dinner auction Saturday, June 10, at Mc- Connellsburg Firehall. A silent auction will be held from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and a barbecue chicken dinner will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the auction at 6:30 p.m. Donations are currently being accepted for both the silent and traditional auctions and are greatly appreciated. Numerous items have already been collected, such as an old gun, handcrafted furniture, collectables, etc. For additional information or for dropoff locations call 717-573-2805, 485-3496 or 485-4454.

Dinner/Auction Southern Fulton Education Foundation will hold a dinner and auction March 25, at American Legion in Hancock, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Some major items include paintings and prints by local artist, priginal painting by Brian Tucker, 3-day fishing/beach trip on Eastern Shore for four people, professional sports tickets, whole hog, restaurant gift cards and craft items by local artists.

Free Movie A free movie will be shown at Fulton County Library’s community room, Friday March 17, at 6:10 p.m. Showing is “Moana,” rated PG.

Easter Egg Hunt Forbes Road Lions Club will hold an Easter egg hunt at 11 a.m. (note change in time), Saturday, April 15, at Lions Park, weather conditions permitting. In case of inclement weather or muddy grounds, the event will take place in the gym. Candy and special prizes for toddlers through age 12. Raffle tickets are now on sale to support the egg hunt and other Lions Club projects.

Szwydek 5K Run/Walk The Szwydek 5K Run/Walk will be held April 8, at 9 a.m., at Forbes Road School. Registration forms can be picked up at any of the Fulton County high schools or downloaded online through Forbes Road’s Web site at www.frsd.info. All proceeds go toward annual field trips for all three Fulton County Schools to Arlington National Cemetery.

Historical Society Bus Trip Fulton County Historical Society will sponsor a spring bus trip April 28. Travel to Johnstown where several nationally significant events, such as the 1889 Johnstown Flood and the beginning of the steel industry occurred. Take the opportunity to explore the history and culture from all periods of this city. Bus will leave Giant at 7:30 a.m. Itinerary includes the Johnstown Flood National Memorial, lunch on your own, a ride on the steepest incline plane in the world, the Johnstown Flood Museum, Heritage Discovery Center, family-style dinner at Slick’s Ivy Stone Restaurant in Osterburg and arrive back in Mc- Connellsburg at 7 p.m. Cost is under age 65, $67; age 65 and over, $63. Exercise Classes The following classes are available at the alumni community building: Yoga – Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Zumba – Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Tai Chi – Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Pilates – Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and Country Heat – Saturdays from 11 a.m. to noon. Also come to the gym Monday, Wednesday and Fridays and walk inside, out of the weather, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. free. NAR-ANON Meeting The Nar-Anon Family Group is primarily for those who know or have known a feeling of desperation concerning the addiction problem of someone very near to you. We have travelled that unhappy road too, and found the answer with serenity and peace of mind. When you come into the family group you are no longer alone, but among true friends who understand your problem as few others could. We respect your confidence and anonymity as we know you will respect ours. Meetings are every Thursday at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 228 North Second Street, McConnellsburg. Operation Save A Life Anyone concerned that a loved one is at risk for overdosing on heroin or a prescription pain medication should attend training to learn opioid types; how to recognize, respond to and prevent an opioid overdose; how to administer intra-nasal Naloxone (Narcan) to reverse an overdose. Please attend the next training March 21, at the Overly-Raker Building from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Registration is required for training and spaces are limited. Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center cardiopulmonary rehab gym. The cost is based on insurance. Call 717-485-6149 to see if insurance provider is accepted. Community Wellness is $40/month/person or $70/month/couple.

Alzheimer’s Support Group Do you have questions about caring for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer’s? Visit the support group the third Tuesday of each month, at 6 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center in the Pearl Room. Light supper is provided. Meetings are free. There is a speaker each month focusing on different subjects dealing with this illness. As we travel this journey together there is help here, with daily, weekly and monthly challenges for all stages.

Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Monday morning at 11 a.m. (even holidays) in the Pearl Room, second floor of Fulton County Medical Center, and every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the basement of Mc- Connellsburg Alumni Building, located at 301 East Maple Street. Both are open meetings that anyone can attend.

Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month from 10:30 a.m. to noon. When the third Monday is a holiday, the class is held the fourth Monday. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

Autism Support Group Autism support group meets the last Tuesday of the month quarterly at 6 p.m. Call Lauren Everetts 717-485-6107 for details.

Yoga Classes Reaching Wellness yoga classes will be held for all ages Tuesdays at 5 p.m., at the Fulton County Medical Center. Call for cost and to register at 717-860-5690.

Narcotics Anonymous Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meets three times per week in McConnellsburg. NA is a nonprofit fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem. Membership is open to all drug addicts, regardless of the particular drug or combination of drugs used including alcohol. Members share their successes and challenges in overcoming active addiction and living drug-free, productive lives through the application of the principles contained within the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of NA. Anyone is welcome no matter what was used or how big the desire to stop using is. Meetings are held Sunday and Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Fulton County Medical Center (follow the signs at the main entrance to the Pearl Room) and Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 228 North Second Street, McConnellsburg. Blueberry Sale Fulton County 4-H clubs are holding a blueberry sale. Ten-pound boxes of large, clean blueberries for $27. Delivery is Tuesday, June 27. Contact a 4-H member or Penn State Extension Office at 717-3235-4871 to place order. Last day for orders is May 24.

Pesticide Exam Pesticide exam will be held at the EOC room below Children’s Services in McConnellsburg April 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This exam is administered by Pennsylvania Department of Ag. Anyone wanting to register for the exam should call 814-793-1849, Ext. 213.

Preschool Story Hour Preschool story hour is held weekly at 10:30 a.m. Hustontown Branch library hosts on Tuesdays; McConnellsburg library, Wednesdays; and Southern Fulton County at Dott Store, Thursdays. JumpStart Event On Monday, March 27, at 6 p.m., at Mc- Connellsburg Middle/High School cafeteria, Dan Wray from PA Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) will speak about a wide range of topics that are of interest to college-bound students and their families. Whether the student is considering a one-year diploma/certificate, a two-year degree, a four-year degree, or an academic program that requires graduate level work, JumpStart will highlight practical steps that can be taken years in advance. The event is designed primarily for ninth- and 11th-grade students, but it will include something for everyone. Covered specifically are some of the recent changes to the FAFSA filing deadlines. Victory Garden Program Penn State Master Gardeners of Fulton County invite all to participate in the sixth victory garden program. Cost is $25 per person or $30 per family and program will run every Thursday, beginning April 20 thru October 2017, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The victory garden is located on Second Street behind McConnellsburg Firehall. Learn how to and/or more effective ways to garden while sharing in the produce grown. The program has one hour of instruction and then one hour of hands-on work in the garden per week. Gardeners Workshop Penn State Master Gardeners of Fulton County invite all to participate in the spring workshops. The following will be held at the Penn State Extension Office, 610 East North Street, McConnellsburg: April 8 – advanced hypertofa pot making. Cost is $30 and take home a cement flowerpot; May 13 – small fruits. Cost is $15 to select, grow and maintain strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries and at least one plant being taken home. Parenting Power Hour A Parenting Power Hour of learning exploring and relaxing together is held every Monday from 11 a.m. to noon at Fulton County Family Partnership, 22438 Great Cove Road (use COPE entrance). Open to any caregiver interested in improving parent/child relationships, self-awareness and communication with children all while interacting with other parents. VFW Election The annual election of officers for VFW Post 655 will be held at the regular monthly meeting April 6, at 6 p.m. Meetings are held in the FOVA. All members are urged to attend.

Umpires Needed Fulton County Youth Little League is seeking home plate umpires for the 2017 season. Pay is $20 per game. If interested call Dan at 987-3916.

FR Registration Forbes Road School District will hold Redbird (K-4) and kindergarten (K-5) registration for the 2017-2018 school year Monday, April 3, and Tuesday, April 4. Children who will be age 4 on or before the first day of school are eligible for the Redbird (K-4) program and children who will be 5 on or before September 1, 2017, are eligible for the kindergarten (K-5) program. Trapper Education Class A Pennsylvania Game Commission Hunter Trapper Education class will be held Saturday, March 18, at the DCNR Forestry Building, five miles north of McConnellsburg, off Route 522. The class will start at 8 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. Students must pack a lunch as no lunch is provided. First-time hunters or trappers must successfully complete a Hunter Trapper Education class in order to purchase a hunting or trapping license. Students must be at least 11 years old to participate and must register for the class on the Pennsylvania Game Commission Web site. For information only contact John K. Johnston at 717-485-5390.

Pumpkin Growing Contest McConnellsburg Motor & Implement Co., 875 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg, is sponsoring a pumpkin growing contest during Fulton Fall Folk Festival. The Grease, Steam & Rust Assoc. will be working with them to coordinate this program. To participate seeds must come from the sponsors and they are available as of January 23, 2016. Spring Tea The annual Historical Society spring tea will be held Saturday, April 8,at 11:30 a.m., in the Fulton House. Tickets are $10 for adults and $4.50 for children and are available at Tickle Your Fancy Tea Room or from Monica Seville at the treasurer's office. Food Auction Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a food auction Friday, March 24, at 5 p.m. Kitchen opens at 3 p.m. Auctioneer is Darryl Weaver.

Scouting Breakfast The sixth annual Friends of Scouting breakfast will be held Friday, March 24, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., at McConnellsburg VFW Post 655. Speaker will be John Kelso, an Eagle Scout. The breakfast is open to all those who value the Scouting program in Fulton County as it prepares the next generation of boys and young men for the responsibilities of adulthood and citizenship. Steak & Chicken Dinner A steak and chicken dinner will be held March 25, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Pleasant Union Church fellowship hall, 259 Pleasant Union Church Road, Clearville. Menu will be cubed steak, pulled pork, mashed potatoes, applesauce, soft freeze ice cream, chicken, ham, green beans, roll and cake. Takeouts available.

Pancake Supper Bedford Chapel Church, Rt. 643, 4570 Flickerville Road, Warfordsburg, will hold an all-you-can-eat pancake supper Saturday, March 18, from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. Menu includes pancakes, buckwheat cakes, sausage, sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, coffee and juice.

Wild Game Dinner Calvary Independent Baptist Church invites all to the annual wild game dinner March 18 at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is invited. Meal will be provided by the church. Assorted prizes will be given throughout the evening. Special speaker will be the Witt brothers whose father was killed in a hunting accident. After years of grief and anger they found peace and now share their experience with others.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

Meals Available Once a month volunteers pack up boxes of food to be given to anyone in need in the Waterfall area. Pickup is at Center United Methodist Church community building on Doran Road, Waterfall. More information may be obtained by calling 814-685-3780. Calls will be kept strictly confidential.

Soup Night McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church will hold a soup night through April 5 on Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. If Central Fulton school is cancelled for the day or early dismissal soup night is also cancelled.

BINGO

SF Bingo Southern Fulton PTA will hold a bingo April 23. Doors open at noon and bingo at 2 p.m., at Needmore Firehall. Concessions available. Raffles, extra games, specials and small games of chance available for purchase. Donation is $25 per person for 20 games with one winner per game. Must have ticket to attend. Seating is limited. Benefit Bingo A benefit bingo for Alec, Addy and Brodey Gelvin (children of the late Chad Gelvin), will be held Sunday, March 19, at McConnellsburg Firehall. Doors open at 11 a.m. and bingo begins at 1 p.m. Twenty regular games and four specials for $20 per ticket. Contact Pam Sward for tickets at 717- 658-2843. Also silent auction and raffles with prizes including lap top, New Wave cooker, glider, coffee machine, Turbo cooker, Pink Zebra, etc. Every other bingo is cash, along with tip tickets and gun raffles.
