Frederick D. Hinkle

Frederick D. “Fred” Hinkle, 71, Yellow Creek, died Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Holliadysburg Veterans Home.

Born February 10, 1944, in Puttstown, he was a son of the late Elvin and Susan (Boose) Hinkle. He was united in marriage to the former Linda McFarland August 10, 1968, in Tatesville.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; four children: Frederick Hinkle and wife Carol, Breezewood; Rhonda Newman and husband Darrin, Wells Tannery; Kevin Hinkle and wife Yvonne, Martinsburg, and Brian Hinkle and wife Ashley, Loysburg; 11 grandchildren: Keenan and Kyler Fink, Chelsea Franklin and Dylan, Waylon, Camden, Holden, Noah, Logan, Braden and Emily Hinkle; two brothers: Clair Hinkle and Barry Hinkle and wife Mary, all of Saxton; four sisters: Doris Spencer and husband Chester, Prineville, Ore.; Patsy Barnett and husband Carl, McConnellstown; Shelby Sweeney and husband Dennis, Everett; and Darlene Notestine and husband, Steven, Saxton; a sister-in-law, Carol (Hinkle) Meiman, Killeen, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hinkle; an infant sister, Shirley Hinkle; and a sister-in-law, Annamary (May) Hinkle.

He served in the United States Army as a sergeant during the Vietnam War. While enlisted, he worked as a radar technician, was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and received the Expert Marksman Pin.

He was a graduate of Saxton Liberty High School.

He worked on bridge building crews with numerous construction companies throughout his life.

He was an avid NASCAR fan, supporting his favorite drivers Bill Elliot and Kasey Kahne. He also enjoyed woodworking and tending to his garden.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 10, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, Bedford. Revs. Curtis Bryant and John Geyer officiated. Full military rites were conducted by Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Interment was made in Yellow Creek Reformed Cemetery.
