Senior Center Karaoke Karaoke and DJ Donnie will be at Warfordsburg Senior Center Saturday, August 23. Doors will open at 5 p.m., with the music starting at 6 p.m. Charge at the door is $5 per person or $8 a couple. Light refreshments will be served. Canal Apple Days Canal Apple Days will be held September 20 and 21 in Widmeyer Park, Hancock. There will be a parade through town, food vendors, arts and crafts, baby contest, etc. Also available will be barbecue chicken, steak sandwiches, french fries, funnel cakes, etc. Anyone interested din hosting a booth or taking part in the parade should contact pete777r@verizon.net.

Benefit Auction A benefit auction will be held September 27, at McConnellsburg American Legion. Doors open at 3 p.m. and auction begins at 5 p.m. There will be no alcohol served during this event. Admission is $5 per person. Children 10 and under are admitted free. Tickets on sale now. Proceeds benefit Pastor Bill Swope. Donations are needed. Cruise-In For A Cause A cruise-in will be held September 20, rain or shine, at Thomas All Things Automotive, 21518 Great Cove Road, McConnellsburg, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. A $10 donation is being accepted per registered vehicle. This event is being held to benefit Tom H. Deshong and Shelly Sherman, who are battling cancer. Food will be available for purchase by Sipes Smokehouse BBQ. A bake sale is being hosted by Rehoboth New Life. Cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome. The first 35 registered vehicles will receive a thank-you gift envelope. No alcoholic beverages. Line Dance Fulton County Line Dance Club will hold line dance sessions every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of the month) beginning at 7 p.m. at VFW Post 655, Poplar Street, McConnellsburg. All are welcome. Come and learn some new steps. A $2 donation is appreciated.

Motorcycle Ride The annual end-of-summer Fallen Rider benefit ride will be held Sunday, September 14, at Mercersburg Mennonite Church. Walk-Rock-Roll-a-Thon A walk-rock-roll-a-thon will be held during the August 29 social at Warfordsburg center and community park. A covered-dish meal with meat provided will start at 6 p.m. DJs Barb and Forrest will kick off the event at 7 p.m. Along with the walk-rock-roll-a-thon there will be a bonfire, dancing in the pavilion and prizes. Bluegrass Jamboree Mason-Dixon Council, Boy Scouts of America, will host the fifth annual Sinoquipe Bluegrass Jamboree September 13, at Sinoquipe Scout Reservation in Fort Littleton. Gates open at noon and close at 5 p.m. There will be a silent auction. Community support is requested for donation of items to be included in the auction. Farmer’s Market Vouchers Available Farmer’s market vouchers are still available at the Fulton County Area Agency on Aging. Individuals age 60 and over who have not yet received vouchers this year with income for a 1-person household less than $21,590 and a 2-person household less than $29,101 are eligible for the vouchers. Master Gardener Classes Fall classes are being offered for anyone interested in becoming a Master Gardener. Classes will be held at the Fulton County Extension Office. Please attend the informational session September 4 at 11 a.m. at the Master Gardener Victory Garden behind McConnellsburg Fire Department. AARP Class AARP Refresher Safe Driving Course will be offered at Hustontown Senior Center Tuesday, September 16, from 8 a.m. to noon. This is for those who have already had the 2-day driver’s safety classes. Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. AARP will also be doing a 2- day course on Monday and Tuesday, September 22 and 23, from 8 a.m. to noon, for those who have never taken the classes. No testing involved. Clothing Giveaway Crossroads Bible Church will hold its second annual winter outerwear clothing giveaway in the Kidz Korner building Saturday, September 13, from 9 a.m. to noon. Children and adults can choose from a selection of coats, jackets, vests, scarves, hats, gloves, and mittens. Volunteer Work Days Volunteer work day will be held at Cowans Gap from 9 a.m. to noon September 27. Tools and materials will be supplied by the park. Farmers Market Open Harvest Moon farmers market is open Fridays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the county parking lot adjacent to the Fulton County Courthouse. The market accepts farmers market vouchers from senior citizens as well as from those receiving assistance from the Women, Infants, Children (WIC) program.


Buddy Walk Meeting Fulton County Buddy Walk will hold monthly meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., in the Community State Bank meeting room. Historical Society Meeting Fulton County Historical Society will hold its fall membership meeting September 20, 2014, at Crampton Manor Acorn Barn at 6 p.m. Speakers will be Mike Crampton and members of Frontier Barn Quilt Trail of Fulton County Project Committee, who will talk about the Frontier Barn Quilt Trail of Fulton County Project. Light refreshments will be provided. Take U.S. 522 north to Knobsville, turn left onto East Dutch Corner Road, go to the top of the hill and turn right onto Country Lane. Crampton’s lane is a short distance on the right. Once on their lane, bear left and travel on a graded lane for approximately one mile to their guest house and the Acorn Barn.

Legion Meeting American Legion Post 561 active members regular meeting is the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. Auxiliary members meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. Members of both organizations are urged to attend.

OSI Annual Membership Meeting Occupational Services Inc. (OSI) will hold its annual membership meeting Monday, September 15, at 7 p.m., at 17 Redwood Street, Chambersburg. The public is invited to attend. OSI is a vocational rehabilitation facility serving Franklin and Fulton counties since 1957. The nonprofit agency serves the vocational needs of individuals with disabilities and is governed by a voluntary board of directors.

Meals Available Are you hungry? Could a few groceries help to feed you and your family? Once a month volunteers pack up boxes of food to be given to anyone in need in the Waterfall area. Autumn Tea The annual Fulton County Historical Society autumn tea will be held Saturday, September 13 at the Fulton House at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $9 for adults and $4.50 for children under 14. They will be available after August 15 at Tickle Your Fancy tea room and from Monica Seville at the treasurer’s office. Hustontown/Forbes Road Alumni Banquet Hustontown/ Forbes Road alumni banquet will be held October 4, at Hustontown Firehall. Doors open at 4 p.m. for those who want to come early and visit with friends. Meal will be served at 6 p.m. All alumni from either school are invited to attend, especially the classes of 1934, 1944, 1954, 1964, 1974, 1984, 1994, 2004 and 2014. Cost is $10 per person. Pig Roast Ebenezer United Methodist Church will hold a pig roast and pulled pork picnic September 20 at Ebenezer Church pavilion, 226 Ebenezer Church Road, Needmore. Bring family and a covered dish. Gather at 3 p.m. for visitation and meal at 4 p.m. Pulled pork, drinks and other amenities will be provided. Bring a lawn chair. There is no charge. There will also be an antique vehicle display. No prior registration is necessary.

Ice Cream Festival Fairview United Methodist Church will hold an ice cream festival Saturday, September 13. The church is located four miles north of Hustontown on North Hess Road. Homemade ice cream, soups, sandwiches, french fries and desserts will be for sale. The festival will begin at 4 p.m. Remember: Due to the turnpike construction, a detour is in effect on North Hess Road.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

Narcotics Anonymous Recovery from drug addiction is possible through the Twelve Steps of Narcotics Anonymous (NA). If you are or know someone who is struggling with addiction come join in the Pearl Room Sunday nights at 7 p.m. in Fulton County Medical Center. Anyone is welcome not matter what you used or how big your desire to stop using is.

Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center cardiopulmonary rehab gym. Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month. When the third Monday is a holiday, it is held the fourth Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

Immunization Clinic Anyone who is uninsured or underinsured, the Department of Health can help with vaccinations. The Department of Health is providing a public immunication clinic, by appointment only, the first Friday of each month from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren, 2507 Pleasant Ridge Road, Needmore, and the third Friday of every month at McConnellsburg Fire Co. Anyone is eligible for vaccines at low or not cost if underinsured (insurance does not cover vaccine) or uninsured (no insurance). Maximum cost is $5, payable with check or money order. McConnellsburg AA Meetings The McConnellsburg Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. every week at the Alumni Building Basement, McConnellsburg.

Bingo Ashlyn’s Angels will hold a Longaberger/31/Scentsy bingo Sunday, September 7, at McConnellsburg Firehall. Doors open at noon and bingo begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 and on sale now. Proceeds go to help families in need in Fulton County throughout the winter months and a portion of the proceeds will go to the scholarship fund to be given to one student from each school district. Homecoming Sideling Hill Christian Church will celebrate its annual homecoming Sunday, August 31. Services include Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., worship services at 10:30 a.m., followed by a basket lunch at noon. An afternoon service will be held at 1:30 p.m., with Pastor Lyle Mellott providing the message and Gary Truax providing special music. Homecoming Rehobeth Cemetery Association’s homecoming service will be held at Rehobeth United Methodist Church Sunday, August 31, at 2 p.m. Pastor Frank Kocek will be in charge with Rev. Delmas Bard, pastor of Faith Assembly of God Church, Amaranth, as guest speaker. Music for the afternoon will be provided by Rev. Gene Harding. Memorial gifts by mail are appreciated.
