Marvin Cavender


Marvin Gene Cavender, age 85 of Warfordsburg, recently of Williamsport Nursing Home, went to be with the Lord and Savior Monday, August 18, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.

Born, January 14, 1929 at Braddock Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, to parents Chester McKinley Cavender and Mildred Dudley Cavender Caldwell. He was married on November 28, 1948 to Betty Lou McCarty who preceded him in death on February 10, 1995.

Gene was a member of the Hancock Methodist Church for 72 years. In his later years he attended Buck Valley Christian Church.

Gene worked from an early age for Jack Casper Orchards and J.W. Myers both of Hancock, MD. He was a veteran serving in the Army- Air Corp 1946-1947. He then worked for E. I. Dupont, Falling Waters, WV for almost 33 years.

He was a member of the AARP, Woodman of the World and past member of the Hancock Historical Society.

He is survived by daughters, Cheryl Christine Stotler and Candace Cecelia Golyd, son-in-law, Keith Gloyd, granddaughter, Lora Hawkins, grandsons, Stacy Stotler and Christopher Gloyd. Great grandchildren, Ella Hawkins, Samuel and Nicholas Stotler, Madison and Olivia Gloyd, sister-inlaw, Edna Tracey, sisters, Edith Gloyd, Ruth Brush, Frances Younker and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by infant son, Jeffrey Allen Cavender, step-father, George Caldwell and six brothers and sisters.

A service will be held Friday August 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Buck Valley Christian Church, 2281 Harmonia Road, Warfordsburg, PA, Rev. Scott Gibbs will officiate. Burial with a military service by the Tri- State Honor Guard will be in the Buck Valley Methodist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Friday 10-11 a.m.
