Walking At Alumni Gym McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends Assoc. will open the alumni community gym every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., for anyone to get out of the cold and exercise in the gym. This is a free activity. If Central Fulton School District is closed because of the weather, the alumni gym will also be closed. Any questions call 485-0221 or 377-3643.

Game Night Game Night will be held at Warfordsburg Senior Center April 4, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Seniors 60 and older are welcome to come and join in the games. Earth Day Festival An Earth Day Festival, organized by the Fulton County Library’s Teen Advisory Board, will be held at the main library Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event will include crafts and games for children, food and much more.

Senior Center Social Warfordsburg Senior Center’s social will have a “doo wop” themed social with 50s and 60s music provided by Barb and Forrest, March 28. Seniors 60 and over come and enjoy the evening of food, dancing or just listening to the music. Bring a covered dish – meat is furnished. Meal is at 6 p.m. For more information call 717-294-6020.

Szwydek Run/Walk The fifth annual Szwydek 5K run/walk will get under way at Forbes Road Junior/Senior High School Saturday, April 19, at 9 a.m. Registration forms may be obtained by contacting Nancy Szwydek at 240-291- 6920 or at any of the three county high schools. In addition, forms can be obtained through the Forbes Road School District Web site at http://frsd.k12.pa.us. New York City Trip Modern Woodmen of America Camp 7948 is sponsoring a bus trip to New York City Saturday, May 17. Bowling As part of the Fulton Fatherhood Initiative Program, one of the goals at Fulton County Family Partnership Inc. is to encourage positive father/children interaction. Join in for some Saturday family fun at Nellie Fox Bowling on March 29. Bowling will begin at noon. Line Dance Fulton County Line Dance Club will hold line dance sessions every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of the month) beginning at 7 p.m. at VFW Post 655, Poplar Street, McConnellsburg. All are welcome. Come and learn some new steps. A $2 donation is appreciated.

Easter Egg Hunt Forbes Road Lions Clubs Easter egg hunt will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19, weather conditions permitting. In case of inclement weather or muddy grounds, the event will take place in Forbes Road High School gym. Candy and special prizes for toddlers thru 12 years old. Raffle tickets are now on sale to support the egg hunt and other Lions Club projects.

Easter Egg Hunt McConnellsburg Lions Club will host its annual Easter egg hunt for youths 12 and under at Lions Community Park Saturday, April 19, at 10 a.m. There will be different age groups with prizes for each group.

War Games Weekend A French and Indian War Games weekend will be held Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6, at the state historic site of Fort Loudoun. The public is invited to attend from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sunday. There will be periodic programs for the public. The Patton House Museum will be open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Free admission and free parking. Fort site is located off Route 30 on N. Brooklyn Road.

5K Run/Walk A 5K run/walk will be held April 26 at Chambersburg. Registration sheets are located on the CAMS South middle School’s Web site at www.chambersburg.k12.pa.us. Start time is 8:30 a.m. for a 1- mile run run for ages 12 and under and 9 a.m. for the 5K run/walk. CF Hall Walking Central Fulton hall walking will run until the end of March. Hall walking will be at the high school Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Check the Web site for updates at www.cfsd.info.


McCbg. Bingo McConnellsburg Fire Co. will hold bingo every Friday. Bingo starts at 7 p.m. and doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Basket Bingo The ARC of Franklin and Fulton counties will host its annual basket and Vera Bradley bingo Sunday, April 6, at the VFW in Chambersburg on South Fourth Street. Tickets are $25 each and include lunch. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and bingo will start at 1:30 p.m. Prizes are Longaberger baskets and Vera Bradley purses. Proceeds from the event stay in Franklin and Fulton counties and support services to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Historical Society Dinner/Meeting Mark calendars for the Fulton County Historical Society’s annual dinner and meeting April 3, 2014, at 6 p.m., at McConnellsburg Firehall. Legion Meeting American Legion Post 561 active members regular meeting is the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. Auxiliary members meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. Members of both organizations are urged to attend.

Farmers’ Market Meeting Community leaders are interested in hosting a weekly farmers’ market in McConnellsburg this summer. An exploratory/organizational meeting will be held Thursday April 3, 2014, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., in the EMA meeting room in McConnellsburg. Produce growers, bakers, flower growers and other agricultural entrepreneurs are all invited to attend this no-obligation informational meeting. McConnellsburg AA Meetings The McConnellsburg Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. every week at the Alumni Building basement, McConnellsburg, and Mondays at 11 a.m. at Fulton Co. Medical Center.


Lenten Services Special evening services will be held at McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church each Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. through April 9. Rev. Evan R. Smith will be presenting a series entitled “Who Do You Say I Am?”

Summer Mission Experience “Hands & Feet Of Hope,” a summer mission experience open to all junior and senior high students, will be held June 22-28 in Fulton County. Students receive community service hours for light construction projects, home repairs, handicap access, painting, yardwork, etc. Evening activities, games and worship. Open House The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will hold an open house at their meetinghouse April 12, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The meetinghouse is located at 182 Buchanan Trail, McConnellsburg, in Penns Village Shopping Center. Anyone interested in increasing their awareness and understanding of the church, its programs and how Latter-day Saints worship is cordially invited to attend. The members of McConnellsburg congregation routinely participate in many acts of service benefitting Fulton County residents. Displays will provide insights into how Jesus Christ is central to the church, which bears His name. In addition, they will demonstrate the role of family; the lay ministry of the local congregations; the major efforts to provide humanitarian service; and the major emphasis on interfaith relations. Members will be available to answer questions. Refreshments and opportunities for discussion will be provided.

Drama Presentation A live drama using elaborate lighting, sound, costumes and backdrops, “Heaven’s Gates & Hell’s Flames,” is a high-impact and compelling presentation of the reality of Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection, heaven, hell and a person’s choice in life determining where they will spend eternity. Library Building Dedication Fulton County Library Board of Directors will hold a building dedication at the main library in honor of the considerable financial contributions made by Anna and the late Paul Shockey. The dedication will be held Saturday, April 26, at 11 a.m. The public is welcome to attend.

CF Kindergarten Registration Central Fulton School District will hold registration for the 2014-15 school year Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, April 9, 10 and 11. Children who will be age 4 on or before August 20 are eligible for the K4 program and children who will be age 5 on or before August 20 are eligible for the K5 kindergarten program. Fundraiser McConnellsburg Middle School 8th Grade Character Education class will hold a fundraiser to help Weston Rock in his fight against cancer at McConnellsburg Elementary School Friday, March 28. Dodgeball, carnival games, bake sale goodies and fun. Admission is $10 for dodgeball players and spectators $2. SF Class Of 1984 Reunion Southern Fulton Class of 1984 has planned their 30th class reunion for May 31, at Whips Cove Church social hall, 5044 Moss Road, Warfordsburg. Dinner/Auction Renewing Hope Ministries is dedicated to the restoration and relief of ladies who are fighting the devastating effects of addictive or self-destructive habits.
