Healthy Horse Pasture Workshop
The Franklin County Conservation District and the Natural Resources Conservation Service will host a Healthy Horse Pasture Workshop Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Welsh Run Stables in Mercersburg.
Horse owners do not have as many opportunities for hands-on education as some of the more traditional livestock producers, this is why we are aspiring to provide the equine community with a hands-on workshop.
The topics to be covered that day will include, biology and management of forages, benefits and risks of grazing, the importance of rotational grazing and pasture maintenance, weed identification, soil testing, manure management and an overview of current regulations that affect horse owners. Many of these topics will be discussed while walking through the pastures to ensure a hands-on experience.
