Merrill E. Houck Chambersburg, 70

Merrill Eugene Houck, 70, Chambersburg, died Friday, February 14, 2014, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

Born April 13, 1943, in New Grenada, he was the son of the late Carl and Ruth (Black) Houck. He was married to Bonnie Horne, his wife of 50 years, on June 14, 1963. She survives at their home.

Four children survive: Brad E. Houck and wife Susan, Fort Littleton; Marcy Hoffman and husband Doug; Robin Seville and companion Richard Smith, and Stacey Carbaugh and companion Chuck Wishard; all of Mercersburg; seven grandchildren: Christi Sites, Cory Houck, Colby Winters, Mikenna Hornbaker, Brady Hornbaker, Braylin Carbaugh, and RiLynn Smith; six great-grandchildren, along with several step grandchildren and stepgreat grandchildren; and twin sister, Sherrill Snyder and husband Paul, Fayetteville.

A brother, Larry Houck, and a sister, Karen Stiver, are deceased.

He attended West Side Brethren Church, Chambersburg.

Retiring in 2007, he, along with his wife, owned and operated Houck’s Painting, Chambersburg for 30 years.

He was a 1961 graduate of Forbes Road High School, Waterfall, and was a member of Plum Hollow Hunting Club, Hustontown.

He enjoyed hunting, working in his yard and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at West Side Brethren Church, Chambersburg. Pastor James Sollenberger officiated. Interment was at Bethel Cemetery, New Grenada.
