Fredric J. Knepper Hustontown, 82
Fredric Joel Knepper, 82, Hustontown, died Tuesday evening, January 21, 2014, at Pinnacle Health-Harrisburg Hospital, Harrisburg.
Born February 28, 1931, in Taylor Township, Fulton County, he was the son of the late Joel and Ferne (Wright) Knepper. He was married to Ruth Hawkins on March 28, 1955. She died June 14, 2005.
Also preceding in death was his longtime companion, Joyce Bookheimer, who died October 26, 2010.
He is survived by four children: Milton F. Knepper, Hustontown; Melinda F. Clark and husband Jim, Jasper, Ala.; Monica J. Mellott and husband Barry, Hustontown; and Mark D. Knepper and wife Lisa, Hustontown; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Glenn Knepper of Greencastle and Larry Knepper of New Holland, Pa.
He was a member of Center United Methodist Church, Waterfall.
A lifelong farmer, he was a member and former director of the Fulton County Farm Bureau and served nine years on the Farm Service Agency County Committee.
A Korean War veteran serving from June 1953 to August 1954, he was a staff sergeant and squad leader with E Company, 15th Infantry, 3rd Infantry Division. He was a member of the Korean Veterans Association, 3rd Division Association, 15th Infantry Association and “Outpost Harry’ Survivors Association. He also belonged to Forbes Road Lions Club and VFW Post 655, McConnellsburg.
He enjoyed cutting firewood, open mic night at Hustontown Firehall and attending local ice cream festivals.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, January 27, 2014, at Center United Methodist Church, Waterfall. Pastor Betty Secrest officiated. Interment was at Center Cemetery.
M. R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, was in charge of arrangements.
