Walking At Alumni Gym McConnellsburg Alumni & Friends Assoc. will open the alumni community gym every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., for anyone to get out of the cold and exercise in the gym. This is a free activity. If Central Fulton School District is closed because of the weather, the alumni gym will also be closed. Any questions call 485-0221 or 377-3643.

Sweetheart Ball The 30th annual Beta Sigma Phi Sweetheart Ball will be held February 8 at McConnellsburg American Legion. Tickets are $40 per couple. Doors open at 6 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m., followed by dancing and live and silent auctions. Funds raised are to benefit Renewing Hope Ministries, Ladies Recovery Center and other local charities. Band Festival McConnellsburg and Forbes Road school districts will host the Franklin/Fulton County Music Educator’s Assoc.’s Band Festival Saturday, January 18, at Mc- Connellsburg High School. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. The event begins at 1:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Elks Hoop Shoot The Chambersburg Elks Lodge #600 will hold its annual hoop shoot January 19, at Alumni Community Gym, 151 East Cherry Street, McConnellsburg, Pa. The hoop shoot comprises 25 foul shots from each contestant. It is open to all girls and boys ages 8-13. Birthdate as of April 1, 2014. Registration times are: 8-9-year-olds – 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Competition will start at 2:30 p.m., following the opening ceremonies; 10-11-year-olds: 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the 12- 13-year-olds registering from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Any questions or to preregister 717-485-0221 or 377-3643. Softball Registration BiValley Girls Softball is taking registrations for travel teams that play in Chambersburg Suburban League. Plans are made for 12U, 14U and 18U teams to play in CSL. 12U games begin at the end of April. 14U and 18U won’t start until high school ball season is nearing an end. Line Dance Fulton County Line Dance Club will hold line dance sessions every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of the month) beginning at 7 p.m. at VFW Post 655, Poplar Street, McConnellsburg. All are welcome. Come and learn some new steps. A $2 donation is appreciated.

MEETINGS

Sportsmen’s League Meeting Fulton County Sportsmen’s League will meet at 7:30 p.m., in the stone house at the trout nursery on January 17. New officers and board members ere elected during the December meeting.

P.O.W.E.R. Meetings P.O.W.E.R. (Parents Offering Wisdom, Education and Release) will meet on the following dates: January 27 and February 20 and 24. The goal of the group is to support and educate the community, the addict and the families of addicts to the issues and problems that can occur when dealing with addicts and their recovery programs. Emotional and possible financial support are also offered to any individual who might need it to successfully overcome an addiction. The meeting is held at 292 Buchanan Trail. Legion Meeting American Legion Post 561 active members regular meeting is the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. Auxiliary members meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. Members of both organizations are urged to attend.

PARSE Meeting Pennsylvania Association of Retired StateEmployees(PARSE)hasa9a.m.breakfastmeetingon the second Wednesday of every month at McConnellsburg FOVA (VFW). Democratic Meetings The Fulton County Democratic Club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Democratic Headquarters building at 123 South Second Street in McConnellsburg. Meetings are open to the public, light refreshments are provided and all are welcome. More information may be obtained by calling 485-3386.

Friends Of Meadow Grounds Meeting Friends of Meadow Grounds Lake holds a monthly meeting on the fourth Monday of every month at 6 p.m. at Community State Bank at 415 Fulton Drive (runs from the Giant to Cito Road). The public is invited to attend and contribute.

HEALTH

Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime Community Wellness/Silver Sneakers/Prime will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Fulton County Medical Center cardiopulmonary rehab gym. Yoga Classes Reaching Wellness yoga classes will be held for all ages every Wednesday, 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., at Community State Bank. Call for cost and to register at 717-485- 4492.

Free Blood Pressure Screenings Free blood pressure screenings will be given at the following locations: Mc- Connellsburg Senior Center – the first Thursday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Hann’s Apartments – the first Thursday of every month from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Warfordsburg Senior Center – the first Tuesday of every month from 11 a.m. to noon; and Hustontown Senior Center – the third Thursday of every month from 11 a.m. to noon and Mt. View Apartments – second Tuesday monthly 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Alzheimer’s/Dementia Support Group Alzheimer’s/ dementia support group meets the third Tuesday monthly at 6:30 p.m. in Fulton County Medical Center, Pearl Room. More information may be obtained by calling 717-485-6108.

Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month. When the third Monday is a holiday, it is held the fourth Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

McConnellsburg AA Meetings The McConnellsburg Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. every week at the Alumni Building basement, McConnellsburg, and Mondays at 11 a.m. at Fulton Co. Medical Center.

Relay For Life Kickoff The kickoff for the 2014 Fulton County Relay For Life takes place Sunday, January 19, in the Pearl Room on the second floor of Fulton County Medical Center. The event begins at 1:30 p.m. and includes information about getting a Relay For Life team started, educational materials about American Cancer Society (ACS) programs and services, and light refreshments. The theme for this year’s Relay, which is scheduled for Friday, May 16, and Saturday, May 17, at the McConnellsburg High School track and field, will be announced. Mic & Jam Night Cancelled Mic and Jam night is cancelled at the alumni community building Saturday, January 18, to support McConnellsburg Fire Co. in its tribute to Elvis. Please plan to attend Saturday, February 15 to support the building. Any questions, please call 485-0221 or 377-3643.

Computer Classes Free computer classes will be held at Fulton County Library Friday, January 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call the library at 485-5327 to sign up for help. Reserve up to an hour with Coyle Free Library reference librarian Jill Yaich.

Veterans Assistance Dan McIntyre, assistant state service office of Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be at McConnellsburg VFW to assist veterans with service-connected disability claims. Pancake/Sausage Breakfast A pancake and sausage breakfast will be held January 18 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 7404 Lincoln Highway, Harrisonville, from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Regular, blueberry and buckwheat pancakes, sausage, coffee and tea will be available. Donations will be accepted.

Potpie Supper A potpie supper and yard and bake sale will be held at Needmore Bible Church Saturday, January 25. Yard sale will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and supper is from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Donations accepted. Menu will be ham, beef and chicken potpie, dessert and beverage. Pancake Supper Whips Cove Church, 5044 Moss Road, Warfordsburg, will hold a pancake supper Saturday, February 1, at 5 p.m. Served will be buttermilk and old-fashioned buckwheat cakes, ham, sausage, puddin’, sausage gravy and eggs, orange juice and coffee. Murder Mystery Dinner A Murder Mystery dinner, hosted by Forbes Road Athletic Association Boosters, will be held at Post 561 American Legion February 15. Doors open at 5 p.m. and meal at 6 p.m. Show follows the meal. Advanced ticket purchase required: adults $35, students $20. Soup Night McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church soup night will begin Wednesday, February 5, with the last night being April 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Any cancellations due to weather will follow the Central Fulton School District schedule.

Free Meal A free meal will be served the second Tuesday of each month at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 North Third Street. Please join in for good fellowship.

BINGO

Cash/Prize Bingo A cash and prize bingo will be held at Breezewood Volunteer Fire Co. Sunday, January 26. Doors open at 1 p.m., with games at 2 p.m. Prizes will include cash, Longaberger, Diamond Candles, Vera Bradley, Kate Spade, Thirty-One, Pampered Chef and others. There will also be small games of chance and raffle items. Kitchen will be open. More information may be obtained by calling Donna at 814- 735-4418. All proceeds benefit Breezewood Fire Co. Mark calendars for turkey dinner on February 9.

Redneck Bingo Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. and friends will host a benefit bingo for Larry Traxler January 26 at 1 p.m. On December 13 Larry fell off his house roof and has a long road to recovery. The proceeds will help pay medical bills. Tickets will be sold in advance as well as at the door for $20 to play 20 games. Donations will be accepted in any form such as prizes for the bingo games and raffles. Other donations for sale such as baked goods, sodas, snack foods would be appreciated. McCbg. Bingo McConnellsburg Fire Co. will hold bingo every Monday and Friday of each week. Bingo starts at 7 p.m. and doors open at 5:30 p.m.

RELIGION

Prophecy Conference Dublin Mills Community Church, 2700 Dublin Mills Road, Hustontown, will hold a prophecy conference with Steve Herzig, director of North American Ministries for the Friends of Israel, on Saturday and Sunday, January 18 and 19. There will be two sessions on Saturday (4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.) with a potluck fellowship meal in between and two sessions on Sunday (10 a.m. and 7 p.m.). Video Center United Methodist Church will present the video “Isaiah 9:10 Judgement” Wednesday, February 5, at 6 p.m. A biblical prophecy decoded by Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, best-selling author of the “Harbinger.” The two-hour video compares the Untied States with ancient Israel when the Israelites failed to heed God’s warnings. Light refreshments will be served between the two videos. The church is located between Waterfall and Hustontown off Rt. 655, turn at Dublin Mills Road, go approximately two miles, church is on the right. No cost and everyone is welcome.

Special Services Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene, Harrisonville, will host David and Rhoda Restrick, missionaries to Mozambique, Sunday evening, January 26, at 6:30 p.m. The Restricks have served in Mozambique since 1992. David had previously served as a Peace Corps volunteer, teaching math and science at a Nazarene High School in Swaziland and served as professor and academic dean at the Lula Schmelzenbach Memorial Nazarene Theological College in the Northern Province of South Africa. Prior to the missionary appointment, the Restricks pastored the Church of the Nazarene in Weston-super-Mare, England. Rhoda is a registered nurse and certified in midwifery and served at the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital in Swaziland. The public is invited to join in and learn more about the mission work in Mozambique. The church is located at 5806 Pleasant Ridge Road, Harrisonville.
