Lancaster Angus Wins Supreme Champion

Gambles Shadoe, an Angus heifer owned by Addison Weaver of Ephrata, Lancaster County, was named Supreme Champion Beef Female of the Junior Breeding Beef Show on Sunday, Jan.5, at the 98th Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg.

The Angus rose above grand champion representatives of the Hereford, Limousin, MaineTainer, Shorthorn, Simmental and other purebred breeds for the supreme champion title.

To compare the different breeds, judge Ryan Rathmann of Lubbock, Texas, evaluated each breed champion heifer to its breed’s standard. He said that the competition had a very impressive lineup of show stock. In the end, the Angus was the most complete female in the final drive.

“She was attractive and had a great structure,” said Rathmann. “She was also very stout, making her a real outlier for muscle compared to most heifers.”
