FR Girls Win Tournament

The Forbes Road Lady Cardinals reigned at last Friday’s annual Teddy Thanos Tournament hosted by the Lions Club, downing both the Fulton County Community Christian School and Fannett Metal for the tourney title.

The Lady Cardinals opened up the tournament with a 52-24 victory over the Christian School Chargers, with Braylin Hohman again leading her teammates with a double-double consisting of 18 points and 15 rebounds. McKenzie Gelvin was the next-highest scorer with nine points, while Shania Gelvin, Maiah Mellott and Mina Wilt all had six points. Jenae Gordon was the high scorer for the Chargers, nettinh 16 points.

In the championship round, Forbes Road squared off against Fannett Metal with the Cardinals prevailing by a mere point. Winning the match 47-46, Hohman again tallied 18 points, while Mellott followed with 13.

Hohman, who hit one of two free throws to give the Cardinals the win, was named tournament most valuable player.
