The Forbes Road Lady Cardinals opened their season last Thursday night with a nail-bitter that ended in a buzzer-beater, game-winning shot by freshman McKenzie Gelvin. Braylin Hohman led her Cardinal teammates with 23 points, eight rebounds and seven blocked shots. Maiah Mellott and Gelvin both added nine points. Gelvin also had five assists.

Southern Fulton 73

Chestnut Ridge 40

Macey Hollenshead and Ashley Roman both sunk 25 points last Thursday to lead the Southern Fulton Lady Indians onto a 73-40 Sideling Hill League win over Chestnut Ridge. Hollenshead also had eight assists and eight steals, and Roman added seven boards. Olivia Mottern was the next-highest scorer with nine points.

Northern Bedford 69

McConnellsburg 62

With senior Jessi Keefer suffering a knee injury in the opening quarter last Wednesday, McConnellsburg narrowly fell to Northern Bedford by seven points. Bronwyne Mellott again led the Lady Spartans, racking up 28 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Brittany Parson added 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Sam Roberts finished out the day with seven points.

Forbes Road 63

Everett 37

The Forbes Road Cardinals held the Everett Warriors to 13 points in the second half of last Wednesday night’s game and cruised onto their first win of the season. Downing the Warriors 63-37, the Cardinals were led by Tristan Gelvin with 18 points. Macklin Hawkins and Kyle Schoen both reached double digits with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Hancock 51

The Southern Fulton Indians held a 27-8 advantage in the opening quarter last Wednesday and went on to easily crush Hancock, Md., by the final score of 74-51. During the season opener, Jordan Clingerman tallied 24 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. Connor Litton also had a doubledouble with 14 points and 12 boards. Brady Golden closed out the non-league game with eight points and five assists.

Chestnut Ridge 58

McConnellsburg 49

McConnellsburg trailed by 13 points in the first quarter last Tuesday and ended the Sideling Hill League match-up in a 58-49 loss to Chestnut Ridge. Chase Novak totalled more than half of the Spartans points having netted 26 points along with four assists. Tyrelle White tallied nine points, five steals and four assists, and Matt Snyder added 10 boards.

Chestnut Ridge 44

Southern Fulton had a big second half Friday night and held Chestnut Ridge to four points in the final quarter as part of a 58-44 Sideling Hill League win. Connor Litton led his Indian teammates with 19 points, five assists and multiple steals. Dylan Gordon followed closely with 18 points, and Jordan Clingerman added 16 points and nine rebounds.

Forbes Road 31

The Forbes Road Cardinals fell by 10 points in the opening round of Friday’s Mountain Cat Tournament at Pitt-Johnstown. Losing to Shade by the final score of 41-31, Tristan Gelvin netted 14 points. Kyle Schoen added 10 points, and Macklin Hawkins led the defense with eight rebounds.

Northern Bedford 72

McConnellsburg 59

The McConnellsburg Spartans hit double digits each quarter but the second last Thursday, allowing Northern Bedford to pull away for the 72-59 Sideling Hill League win. Jake Boehme rallied for 18 points and seven assists to lead the Spartans, who also got 11 points from Chase Novak. Tyrelle White finished with six points, eight boards and five steals.
