Norman J. “Jack” Mellott, 84, a Saginaw, Texas, resident for more than 40 years died Saturday, December 7, 2013, at his home.
He was born in Fulton County, the son of the late Charles W. Mellott and Olive Mellott Taylor.
He served in the United States Air Force in the air police from 1951 to 1953.
He graduated from Tri State College in Angola, Ind., with a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and retired from General Dynamics/ Lockheed Martin after 38 years of service.
He married Diane M. Slaats September 23, 1961, in Dubuque, Iowa. They were married for 52 wonderful years and were lifelong companions who did everything together.
He was a generous soul who supported many local charities. He enjoyed golf and frequent breakfast meetings with his friends, who will miss him dearly. He loved sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
Surviving are his wife, Diane S. Mellott of Saginaw, Texas; son Chuck Mellott and wife Lisa, of Fort Worth, Texas; sisters Dorothy Jean Pike, Williamsport, Md.; Norma Ott, McConnellsburg; and Shirley Guthrie, Nashville, Tenn.; a grandson, Nick Mellott; a granddaughter, Lauren Mellott; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 12, at Biggers Funeral Chapel. Dr. Alfie Wines officiated. Private interment was held Friday, December 13, in Saginaw Cemetery.
